My son had his 1st dental check up when he turned 1. the dentist suggested Xylogel. It is a toothpaste from natural plants that has a cooling & healing effect. Can be used for infants esp. if teething.  Bubble gum flavor. My son loves it.

i know, its out of the topic but what about on cleaning the baby's mouth? like, my baby is 10 months old and i still use the old school way - wet cloth wiping the surface of the tounge and inside of the cheeks. is it still effective? my pedia says it still safe. but what about you guys? any thoughts?

Hi there! I'm a mom of 2 and again expecting, you may want to check out - "Spiffies baby toothwipes with xylitol", more info on this website www.spiffies.com - it can be used as early as 4 mos., before any teeth eruption, during teething, as well as when the teeth are out already - available at some pediatric dental offices and online at http://brusselsprouts.multiply.com/photos/album/26/SPIFFIES_FOR_BABYS_TEETH_ . hi, my kids are using pigeon toothpaste...

dati na naming gamit yung pigeon, tapos when i learned about sansflou, we used it until we discovered that it has saccharin...i read from an article that saccharin can cause cancer...most toothpastes contain saccharin to add flavor, but it's a no-no for young kids kc hindi pa sila marunong mag-spit out pag nagba-brush so they could swallow it..kaya we stopped using it na and balik sa pigeon

youngmom, siguro that's the reason why hindi ok ang flavoured toothpaste sa young kids, kc possible na may saccharin content

flouride is also not good for very young children as it may cause flourosis due to excessive swallowing of flouride...eto yung merong white spots sa teeth

I used a silicone toothbrush (one that fits my finger) without toothpaste to clean my son's gums and then his teeth from 1 month to 1.5 years old. Then as recommended by his pedia I switched to a kiddie toothbrush with Sansfluo toothpaste (available sa Watson) that is safe even when swallowed since it has no fluoride (which aside from causing fluorosis, fluoride intake can also cause daw bone cancer especially in boys). About the carcinogenic saccharin (which is an artificial sweetener), Sansfluo toothpaste does not contain such ingredient. I checked syempre and Sansfluo's contents are: Purified water, aloe vera extract (keeps gums healthy), sorbitol, glycerin (sweet-tasting, low toxicity and does not feed the bacteria that form plaques and cause dental cavities), hydrated silica, cellulose, XYLITOL (non-carcinogenic and encourages remineralization of enamel at onset of tooth decay), sodium carboxymethyl, sodium benzoate, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, strawberry or orange flavor. Sansfluo is from Health Amendments, Inc., Blanco Center, L.P. Leviste St., Salcedo Village, Makati City.

By the way, when my son turned one, after his teeth were brushed, I no longer allow him to ingest anything including milk. It's bad daw for the teeth to let him sleep with a bottle of milk or juice in his mouth because the sugar turns into acid causing tooth decay.

O di ba, ganda ng teeth ni Eon... :)

:) mommy pinkyn, cute naman teeth niya! ako, my son kasi right now eat sweet foods (chocolate, candies) though minimal lang naman, reward ko kasi yun sa kanya pag nauubos niya yung food niya. So, i make it a point na after eating sweets eh toothbrush ko talga siya kasi ayaw ko rin masira agad ang ngipin niya. right now, i used happee toothpaste and sometimes alternate with chicco toothpaste, before nung baby pa siya i used sansflou.
Baka di ko na rin paubos yung happee toothpaste kasi may flouride content siya minsan kasi pag wala siya sa mood eh nalulunok niya pag gargle na siya. para safe balik na lang ako ng sansflou or any tutpaste na may xylitol and non flouride, my son btw is 2.5 year old.

Thanks mommydheng! Buti pa nga son mo he's younger pero he knows na how to gargle and spit it out. Ang anak ko kc ayaw kami gayahin kaya hayun nghanap talaga ako ng safe toothpaste. I don't know why they are still selling the PolyviFlor vitamin and fluoridated water when there are already studies that fluoride can be harmful at certain levels to kids 2 years old and below.

Fluoride intakes over 2.5 mg/day in children may cause mottling of the teeth and I've read a research that excessive fluoride intake can make bones more brittle instead of reducing bone demineralization. In addition, that same research stated that fluoridated water might have caused bone cancer in young boys. Sorry ha, I've read it in 2005 pa so I didn't copy the link. When I'm into a certain topic kc I jump from one article to another. Anyway, that research was published online so I can still look for it.

hi mommy pinkyn, try to check the box and the tube...i'm not sure if which one yung merong nakalagay na saccharin eh...medyo weird nga lang kc hindi pareho yung nakalagay na ingredients...the first time i checked it, i was looking at the tube, so na-check ko walang saccharin, so continue pa rin ako ng paggamit..then the next time na bumili ako...pagdating sa house, chineck ko ulit yung box, then dun ko nakita na meron saccharin...you can double check.

Hi! Definitely wala sa Sansfluo tube kc I just checked it yesterday kaya naisa-isa ko ingredients in my reply. I don't seem to remember that the Sansfluo toothpaste was sold in a box sa Watsons kc parang plastic vacuum-packed sya. And since dun sa Sansfluo nabili ko eh may glycerin na then bakit pa naman magkakaroon ng saccharin eh same lang naman silang artificial sweetener?
