for me, mommies i think it is important for us to know what type of learner, our child is.

like my eldest is a visual learner and my second is a kinesthetic learner. the approach i had for my eldest doesn't work much with my second child. thus, i made a different teaching/ studying techniques for each of them. by knowing this, it'll be easier to teach their lessons.

i hate math, science and sibika when i was in grade school. nevertheless, i'm determined to teach my kids to love the subjects i hate most.

in teaching math, like for my eldest i have to make drawings for him to understand place values, its like; "in placing values, your are placing the numbers in their proper places like a family in a house. there's baby ones, kuya tens, mommy hundreds and daddy thousands.."

for my second child, since his kinesthetic, i prepared chips with 'family of tens' on them (10, 20, 30, 40..) i taught him
rounding-off to the nearest tens using that...

the key is, mommies, "different techniques to different types of learners." it is a big help that we should understand our child first on how she/ he grasps learning before we could teach her/him at home. it'll be frustrating on their part and ours lang. it's like putting plugs in a socket.  ;)

I agree happiemommie.. i have 3 kids that came out of my womb with 3 different personalities..  kaya iba ang pagtutor ko sa kanilang tatlo..

am so glad you brought this up. am actually working on a blog article about this (learning types) kasi when I found about this (since I'm not a teacher nor a psychologist), na-appreciate ko talaga and helping my kids study became easier.

Hi mommy!!

Yes, practice, practice, practice... sa bilis ng pagturo ngayon, your child won't master the concepts in just one or two sittings.

If you get the chance, please visit Schoolkid.Ph (www.schoolkid.ph) This has worksheet collections made by parents.

So far, it has worksheets from preschool up  to grade 3... in time, mabubuo din ang buong elementary.  This is great for parents na minsan busy and di na makagawa ng mga practice worksheets at reviewers. Also, ito lang ang may mga worksheets for Filipino and Araling Panlipunan kaya pagdaating ng elementary, you will really appreciate these worksheets.

And kung gumagawa ka rin ng worksheets for your child, then maybe you can share them with the other parents also through Schoolkid.Ph :-)

happiemommie, ngayon ko lang po narinig yang "type of learner". I will check out the site you recomended and will see where my daughter fits.
She loves arts and drawing and I also did some drawings. It's just that, there are a lot to cover on such a small time kaya never na kaming mag ca-cram. Thanks too for the diff "gimmicks" you shared. NAhirapan kasi akong ituro yung round off sa kaniya. With so much to cover, I ran out of tricks.
More power to all of us!

hi mommy jazz, your child would probably be a visual type of learner. she loves seeing colors and figures. she enjoys grasping knowledge with the use of pictures or drawings.

same with my eldest. it'll help using worksheets (esp. from our fav site of our sis' here  ;)) in colors or if printers not available do worksheets or drills using colored pens. this way she wouldn't be bored. it might help also adding up colorful stickers for a job well done on her drill sheets, this will 'visually' stimulate her.;)

Ako everyday kaming nag-aaral ng mga lessons nila for the day. kaya pagdating ng exam, parang refresher na lang ginagawa namin. tapos, kino-compile ko mga quizzes and long exams aside from exercises from textboos and nagdo-download ako sa mga websites na recommended ng mga tests na kamukha ng mga binibigay ng school pagdating ng mastery check -ups nila quarterly.  sa school kasi ng anak ko, a week pa lang meron na silang prino-provide na pointers to review. in that way, mas madaling gumawa at mag-review kasi me basis na kami.

Suggestion on online quiz maker site for test review
« Reply #23 on: July 29, 2011, 09:28:09 pm »

Periodical exam is fast approaching. I want to try making my own online quiz based on my kid's lessons. We'll go paperless this time in our review. Any site suggestions? I found 2 but it easily bores her since the test system/game is all the same.

So far I'm using these:

I'm looking for quizzes that offers more than just multiple choice. Hope someone can help.

Ah, at last, malapit na kaming matapos. We're done with the 1st 2 difficult days of the exam week. One more day to go at madali nalang yung mga natitirang subjects.

I mentioned I used online quizzes this time. I found out I can't fully go paperless kasi there are practice quizzes I need to make on paper like math equations. My daughter didn't like the idea at first. She wants everything like the last time eh masakit sa kamay ko ang panay ang sulat. Maybe the whole online quiz thing is new to her?

Making the online quiz is pain staking but worth it kasi customized sa lesson niya and we can always go back and repeat the quiz til she gets a perfect score. Unlike sa paper, puro bura and you can't repeat it kasi mababasa niya yung previous answer niya na nakabakat pa. Things even got better for me when I found out there are already quizzes made up by other users that also cover her subjects like parts of the eye, nouns, etc. What I did is google "parts of the eye online quiz" and it gave me sites I can choose from that would be applicable.

Bad trip lang nung nagluko ang ISP namin. Nadelay ang study namin at nainis ako kasi parang nabasura lahat ng pagod ko (mahirap mag customize ng test about Rizal and Regions of the Philippines).

I highly recommend supplementing your child's review with an online quiz. Just make sure your internet connection works well.

This is one of the quiz I did about Regions of PH

My dilemma is how to prep my daughter for her Chinese Periodic Exam. I'm not Chinese and I did not hire Chinese tutor. I'm wondering if you can also share sites that have ready exams for kinder.

Thanks so much.

micah (my eldest) study regularly so that she won't be overwhelmed with the upcoming exams.  we only review the topics that are covered for the grading period.  i make my own reviewer for her.

but with her chinese class,  i just tell her to listen to her chinese teacher attentively.  but we're still planning to hire someone who could converse with her in chinese even for just once a week and to review her a week before her exams, since we are not chinese and nobody speaks chinese in the household.
