Because babies aren't yet capable of verbalizing their emotions and only communicate their needs by crying, new parents will often find themselves wondering how to calm the newborn down. The reasons could be anything from hunger, sleepiness or just generally being uncomfortable.
A new app called Lullabond wants to help parents learn about their baby’s needs quicker and with much less effort. How?
Lullabond will analyze a very short sample of a child’s cry and by cross-referencing it to its database, it will tell the user why the baby is upset: hunger, tiredness, wet diaper, gas, etc.
To make sure that the app is accurate in its predictions, Lullabond will need a large number and variety of baby cries; hence it’s planning to build the largest collection of cry samples, aiming at 10,000. “This will enable us to fine-tune the algorithm to make sure that it will produce accurate results,” said Lullabond in a press release.
For this purpose, they’ve made the Donate-A-cry app. Interested parents can download it on their Apple and Android Devices, donate their baby’s cry to the database and help with the cause.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
“The app records seven-second samples of your newborn’s cry and uploads it to our database anonymously,” it said. “To make the final adjustments of the Lullabond app possible, we then plan to launch a crowdfunding campaign in the summer of this year.”
