Likes to undress himself (if his clothes and shoes do not have complicated fastenings) then to put some of his clothes back on as a game. Likes playing dress up.
Walks up and down stairs without help, can jump in place.
Can bend from the waist, instead of squatting down, to pick something up from the floor.
Tries to tiptoe.
Can complete a jigsaw puzzle with three to six pieces.
Able to draw circles aside from horizontal and vertical lines.
Cognitive and Mental Development
Vocabulary will grow fast this month.
Can answer simple questions such as “What is your name?” and “What does the dog say?”
Can follow simple two-step commands, for example, “Sit down and drink your juice.”
Can distinguish opposites when shown pictures, for instance, of a big dog and a small dog (will point to you which is which when you ask).
Memory improves so he remembers, for example, that he left his toy robot in the car even after several hours have passed.
Can associate things he has seen in real life with ones he sees in a book or on TV.
Start of dramatic play, though not a sophisticated fantasy play yet. He will pretend to eat a plastic apple and tell you it’s yummy.
Emotional and Behavioral Development
He’s a bundle of energy (especially because he has already mastered a lot of gross and fine motor skills), so he can’t keep still and is usually highly spirited.
May become clingy, which may be the result of his imagination. He’s afraid, for example, that the vacuum cleaner can suck him up whole like his small toy.
Idolizes older siblings or kids so he imitates the way they play, follows them around the house the whole day, tries to win their affection by offering goodies, etc.
Understands that he’s a separate person from you.
Starts to express feelings with words.
