7 Mom-Approved Sunblocks for Babies and Kids Under P1,000It includes sunscreen that's safe for newborns!by Kitty Elicay .
With a tropical country like the Philippines, sun protection is a must every day, especially during the summer season, when days are longer, the sun is stronger, and most people are spending their time outdoors. Kids must apply sunblock as they are more vulnerable to skin and eye damage.
There are all kinds of sunblocks and sunscreens out in the market, so we asked for recommendations from our Facebook group, Smart Parenting Village. Not only are these mom-approved, they are budget-friendly, too — nothing over Php1,000!
What to look for in a sunblock for kids
As you read through the list below, you'll probably find common terms that you'll encounter when looking at sunblock and sunscreen labels. To help you choose the best sunblock for your kids, here's a quick guide.
- Look for "broad spectrum" on the label. Ingredients must also have zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which are physical blockers that protect you from harmful UVA and UVB rays.
- Choose a sunblock with SPF30 and above. SPF stands for sun protection factor and experts generally recommend using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which blocks out 97% of UVB radiation.
- The sunblock needs to be water resistant. If your kids love swimming and playing in the water, a water-resistant sunscreen is best so you don't have to re-apply it every so often.
