Photographer Shows Moms Do Their Best No Matter How They Choose to Feed Their BabyFeeding a baby is a mother’s personal choice, depending on what works for her and her baby, and it’s time to respect that choice.by Rachel Perez .
Many moms do their best to breastfeed their child, and a photographer shared just how much with a portrait of three mom feeing their babies. One was nursing, another was bottle-feeding, and the other mom was feeding her baby via a contraption with a tube.
The photographer, Felicia Saunders, wof Felicia Saunders Photography, rote in the caption on her Instagram, “No matter your choice of feeding, you are absolutely #amazing!”
Saunders added she wanted document the “story of the loving bond” between mother and child “no matter your feeding style!”
Every year, Saunders shares a photo to create awareness for breastfeeding, but this year, she opted to switch things a bit, reported 8NewsNow. As a mom of two, she had her “own battle with guilt from not being able to breastfeed,” but instead of it downing her spirits, she used as an inspiration. “We all do what is our own best, and that truly is the best,” Saunders told Mother.ly.
Like all other moms who’s been judged and shamed because of their choices (not just on how to feed her baby), the photographer has one wish: for more people to judge less. “We never know what someone may be going through,” the photographer stressed. “Showing support and love can always be the first things to show any parent no matter their nourishment avenue,” Saunders added.
Since the mom of two shared the photo, she has been receiving emails or messages not just from breastfeeding moms, but most importantly, from moms who opted or had no other choice but to use a bottle to feed their baby and moms of special-needs children.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
It’s no secret that breastfeeding can be challenging, Tube feeding doesn’t mean a mom and baby don’t get to bond, Tiffany Grace, the mom in the photo whose preemie son requires the contraption to feed. “Holding him and cuddle him while he’s eating, that way he kind of associates it together,” she told 8NewsNow.
The mom guilt is real for bottle-feeding moms, like Mykel Cooper in the photo. “I feel like everybody tells you you need to breastfeed your baby or you’re doing it wrong,” she told the same news website, adding that she’s had doubts if she’s good enough for her child.
The message of inclusivity and respect for all moms’ choices is clear. While most moms want breastfeed their baby, Saunders said, not everybody can do so — and there’s nothing wrong with that. How you feed your baby is not a gauge of being a good mom. As long as your baby is fed and healthy, safe and thriving, you’re doing an excellent job at being a mom.
