What it is: This injury can be categorized into different degrees depending on severity.

What to do: Let cool (not cold) water or any drinkable liquid run on the burned area or apply cold compress. If the burned area is small, loosely cover it with a sterile bandage.

“If it has redness, pain, minor swelling but without blisters, it’s only a first-degree burn and first aid is still allowable. Never apply toothpaste because it can cause infection,” explains Mervin Baloaloa, emergency nurse at the Manila East Medical Center.
