  • How to Give Your Newborn Baby a Sponge Bath

Know the dos and don'ts during your newborn baby's bath time.

  • Before the umbilical cord comes off, bathing your baby should only consist of sponge baths. Remember to lay your baby on a flat surface. Never take your eyes off her and always keep the parts that you’re not bathing wrapped in a towel. Start by wiping your baby’s eyes with a damp washcloth. Also, use only water when cleaning the outer ears and the nose. The rest of the face should be cleaned using unscented baby soap. Remember to pat the face dry afterwards. When washing your baby’s body, remember to pay close attention to the area behind the ears, the creases under the arms, the neck, and the genital area. Make sure that all the areas are dry before you put on your baby’s diaper and clothes.

    DID YOU KNOW?
Your baby doesn’t need a daily bath to keep clean. Provided you wash off any obvious muck, babies at this age stay clean enough.
