  • By the time your baby reaches her sixth month, she is ready to cross out another milestone — eating solid food. It’s enough to get new parents excited and move them to buy all the essentials their little one might need as they start their baby food journey.

With so many baby brands to choose from, moms at our Facebook group, Smart Parenting Village (SP Village), recommended some of their favorites. These are tried and tested feeding sets that they love that you might like, too!

    1. Oxo Tot Roll-Up Bib

This came highly recommended by our SP Village moms. “Mas matibay and mas nagustuhan ng anak ko,” said one mom. Another loved its Velcro lock, which makes it easier to adjust on baby’s neck.

The bib is made of fabric, so you can easily roll it up into the silicone pocket (which catches the food), secure it and then bring it on-the-go. It’s machine washable, too!

    Buy it here for Php895.

    2. Marcus & Marcus Silicone Feeding Set

Mom Divine Enriquez-Datoc shares that she bought many feeding sets to try for her baby. Marcus & Marcus is her favorite brand.

With a bib, bowl, and spoon included in the set, this is a sulit buy for new parents. A lot of our SP Village moms use it, too! What they love: the silicone is soft, it’s easy to clean, and it’s microwaveable.

Some moms did say that their babies could easily stretch the bib strap, which ended up snapping. Others also said it became loose on their baby’s neck, so it was not as effective at catching stray food. However, there were moms who attested its durability, including Divine Enriquez-Datoc. whom we featured previously for her baby food recipes. “We have several brands, but this is our favorite,” she writes in the SP Village.

    Buy it here for Php899.75.

    3. Nuby Sippy Cups, Silicone Plate, and Utensils

Their sippy cups are a standout — one mom says “kahit maibato [ni baby] hindi madali mag-crack and maganda ang straw niya.”

A lot of moms also recommend its utensils and silicone plate for its durability. “Mahihirapan si baby magtanggal kapag nakalagay na sa flat surface,” one mom said. That is, until your baby finally figures out how to remove it!

Buy the Sippy Cups here starting at Php399.75, the utensils here for Php199.75, and the Silicone Feeding Mat here for Php729.75.

    4. Tommee Tippee Explora Cool & Mash Weaning Bowl

Another brand SP Village moms recommend for baby-led weaning, is Tommee Tippee. Their Explora bowl comes with a leak-proof lid and a soft tip spoon that is not made of silicone. (Moms note that the downside of silicone products is the baby’s tendency is to bite it, which distracts from feeding.) It’s easy to scoop the food out thanks to the triangular base, and moms can already use the bowl and spoon to mash food.

    Buy it here for Php360.

If you’re not a fan of silicone, moms suggest this feeding set. The bowls have an anti-slip base, and the spoon has an easy-grip so babies to encourage self-feeding. It also comes with a feeding bib, and a sippy cup, which makes it a really good buy!

    Buy it here for Php2,200.

Whatever brand you end up choosing for baby, remember that your child’s early overall experience with food affects his attitude toward eating. As long as you make mealtime fun and enjoyable (even if it’s messy at first!), you’ll be able to nurture healthy eating habits and hopefully help your child avoid becoming a picky eater as he grows.
