WATCH: Newborn Baby Attempts To Walk -- Yes, Seriously! There's a reasonable explanation behind the video of a 20-minute-old baby trying to walk.by Rachel Perez .
We've seen babies in the womb do all fun stuff: kick, suck on their thumb, and sometimes do a somersault. When they finally get a glimpse of the real world, newborns explore and learn on a whole new, different level. Walking, however, isn't exactly known as a skill or even reflex that newborns have. We have video proof that one baby seems to have learned this milestone while inside her mother's womb.
Yes, a baby girl was captured on video trying to walk, after just 20 minutes of being born in a Brazilian hospital. In the video, the midwife was trying to give the newborn a bath. As she held the baby up with her feet only slightly touching the surface, the little one started taking baby steps, lifting one foot in front of the other -- as if she was walking.
You could hear the murmurs of surprise in the video. The midwife, speaking in Portuguese, said she has been trying to put the baby down on her back, but it seemed like she didn't want to give up her first try at walking just yet.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWCONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos

Newborn reflexes are automatic bodily responses that are par for the course of a normal baby's development. Some of the more popular newborn reflexes are the rooting and sucking, which aide the baby during feeding time, and the startle reflex, an automatic response to sudden movement or noise.
One of the newborn reflexes is called the "step reflex," and it’s what the newborn baby girl displayed in the video. It has long been associated with the primitive instinct of humans to move. The purpose of this reflex, as Dr. Kenneth Wible told Tech Times, is to prepare a child to walk.
Like all newborn reflexes, the step reflex will disappear after two to four months max. It will re-emerge again as the baby gets ready to take her first steps at around 10 to 11 months old.
So, the video may not evidence a miracle, but it is still nothing short of amazing.
