Karen Davila Is Proud Of Son David, With Autism, Who Was Accepted In UP; Thanks School For Being Inclusive

  • Karen Davila, one of the country’s leading broadcast journalist, proudly shared her eldest son’s recent achievement. Her son, David Sta. Ana, was just accepted into the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts.

    Karen has been proudly sharing David’s milestones. David is also on the autism spectrum. In May 2022, David voted for the first time. Another recent feat was an internship at the retail shop Mumuso. 

    Alongside her heartfelt post were the photos of David in UP, all-smiles outside the College of Fine Arts, sitting in a class with his classmates, and walking along the University with his teachers.

    She shared David’s journey to UP, “Last May 2023, David took the talent determination test along with hundreds of students at the UP Diliman campus. No parents allowed during testing. By June, we got the letter that David made it! My heart was bursting with joy!” 

    A copy of David’s acceptance letter was included in Karen’s post. He is enrolled under the Associate in Arts (Studio Arts) under the College of Fine Arts. David has shown interest in Arts since he was young. Just recently, his artworks were included in an art exhibition. 

    She continued, “Preparing a child in the autism spectrum for college takes a lot of support & planning. Thank so much to my alma materUP DILIMAN, the officials of UPCFA for choosing INCLUSIVITY.”

    Karen said that for the mean time, his teachers from The Vanguard Academy PH will accompany David in his classes. This will help him adjust to college life and his classes. She thanked David’s school, “I love @thevanguardacademyph teachersfor being with David on his journey! Love you guys!”

    Karen previously shared some of the struggles they went through, including David’s episode of seizure back in  2020. This was followed by another episode of epileptic seizure in October 2021. 

    “It is true, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Even more so, a child with special needs. Thank you teachers, David is in college because of all of you. I hope this serves as an inspiration to my co-parents out there!,” Karen included in her post.

    She ended with a sweet message to his son and thanksgiving to God, “David, you continue to defy limitations & expectations. You are God’s miracle. Thank you Lord Jesus for David. Thank you for your faithfulness & love.”
