Crying Our Eyes Out at This Special Olympics Ad on Fatherhood"In the end, it was you who ended up teaching me about life."
Video from Central Films/Vimeo
Young & Rubicam Mexico brought a lump in our throat with their heartwarming ad for the Special Olympics entitled “Surprise,” just in time for Father's Day.
The ad features a dad who is excited to welcome his baby, whom he seems to be pretty sure is a boy. “When I found out you were coming, it was the happiest day of my life,” the ad begins. “A boy. A boy that would love football as much as I did. I waited nine long months, and then you were born.”
It wasn't a boy, and the next shot shows gymnast and World Champion at the Special Olympics 2015, Maria Barbara Wetzel, who has Down Syndrome.
As she finishes her routine, she skates towards her father who has his arms wide open. "I wanted so much to teach you about [football], but in the end it was you who ended up teaching me about life."
