As 2020 draws to a close in a few weeks, SmartParenting.com.ph got in touch with a few celebrities who became moms for the first time this year.
We asked them to describe the feeling of a first Christmas amid a pandemic. We also wondered what they would tell their children about the year 2020.
Ryza Cenon
Ryza Cenon, the star of the action-drama series Bella Bandida, gave birth, via vaginal delivery, to her and her partner Miguel Cruz’s baby boy Night in the early hours of Halloween, October 31.
“We both feel excited, grateful, and blessed, but at the same time, we’re also scared. We can’t help but think of the future of our child.

Dianne Medina
The actress and TV/event host gave birth to her and her actor-husband Rodjun Cruz’s baby boy Rodolfo Joaquin Diego III on September 10.
“It’s my baby Joaquin’s first Christmas. His Dad and I are both excited, grateful, and thankful. I consider my son the greatest blessing I’ve ever received. He is my best Christmas present ever.
“Years from now, I’d like baby Joaquin to know that being pregnant amid a pandemic was really hard and challenging. We lost our jobs and our normal lives. But the only hope we had in our hearts is you, our Baby Joaquin.
“We may have lost a lot, but we gained hope through you, our Baby Joaquin. You were our greatest blessing, our answered prayer, our happiness, and our everything.”

GMA-7 host-actress Luane Dy gave birth to her and her actor-husband Carlo Gonzalez’s baby boy Jose Christiano on April 30.
“Having our first Christmas with Christiano gives us a newfound excitement for one of the most celebrated holidays that we grew up to adore and look forward to. We know his first Christmas with us would just be a regular day for him, so we aim to document it for him to have something to show him later on.
“One thing cannot be denied about the year Christiano was born (2020)—the pandemic we all had to go thru. We will make sure to remind him of how much we had suffered and eventually endured thru these hard times and that he was our saving grace from God that pulled everything together for our family and us.

Visual artist Paulina Sotto gave birth, via normal delivery, to her and her husband Jed Llanes’s baby girl Sachi Brielle on September 7.
“I’m thankful we were blessed with Sachi this year because with everything going on in the world she has been such a bright light in an otherwise very dark period.
"Christmas this year won’t be the same as other years since we can’t celebrate properly or have big family gatherings, but it will still be the most special one now that we have her. I can’t help but be thankful that we are all happy and healthy this Christmas.
“Years from now, I will tell her about how the world essentially stopped in 2020 because of COVID, that I had to give birth alone and no one could visit her due to the pandemic. It was the scariest, most difficult year for everyone, but the most memorable one for us.”
