Despite the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, Filipinos still know to look at the brighter side of things. Moms are enjoying more me-time, the kids are having fun beating the heat, and dads finally have time to work on the DIY projects they’ve been planning!
The quarantine projects are definitely bigger and bolder. Take it from couple Michael and Rose Ann Bautista who decided to build a playhouse for their two sons, Matthew and Timothy! The two did not have a background on design or construction, but they were able to execute the ideas they had in mind.
“Habang nag-b-browse ako sa Facebook one night, may nakita akong nag-share ng mga ideas for playhouse. Sinend ko kay hubby at pumayag siya,” Rose Ann tells SmartParenting.com.ph in an interview through Facebook Messenger. “That same night, naghanap na rin ako ng ideas.”

The kids were looking forward to the playhouse since Day 1. Michael’s parents recently had their old house demolished, so they had pieces of wood lying around. They also had tables custom-made back in January 2020 and still had leftover paint to use for the playhouse.
Rose Ann shares that it took them seven days to finish the house since they only worked on it for half a day everyday. They finished it in time for Easter Sunday last month.

Still, they had fun doing it. The kids were really excited to see the finished product, too!
According to Rose Ann, the two boys are making the most of their playhouse during the quarantine period. "Every day, part na po ng routine nila pag gising is tumakbo papunta sa playhouse," she says.
The playhouse has inspired her sons (born two years apart and sharing the same birthday!) to be more organized especially when it comes to their toys, too! “Marami silang toys na pakalat-kalat kaya rin naisip ko na if may playhouse sila, doon na lang lahat,” the mom shares.
The kitchen is complete with stoves and a sink.
