Lahat Gagawin Para Kay Baby! Dad Builds Slide-And-Swing Set For P200

 If there’s one thing about the community quarantine that we can be thankful for, it’s that families were able to think of creative ways to entertain their children who are stuck at home because of the pandemic. Dads were able to tap their DIY skills, from making baby furniture, playhouses, and pools!

On our parenting community, Smart Parenting Village, one mom proudly showed off her husband’s latest project: a DIY wooden slide and swing set for their toddler!

“Flex ko lang ‘yung asawa kong kayang gawin lahat para sa anak,” writes mom Althea Meizie Reyes, 30. “Mas masarap sa feeling ‘yung pinaghirapan mo, tapos makikita mo sa anak mo ‘yung tuwa at ngiti niya kaninang natapos na ‘yung DIY wooden slide at swing niya.”

How to build a DIY slide and swing set

In an interview with SmartParenting.com.ph via Messenger, Althea shares that they only spent around Php200 for the materials. That’s because her husband, Roylo Reyes, who is a service technician, was able to ask for discarded paleta or wood pallets from his workplace.

“’Yung rope lang po (for the swing and slide) ‘yung binili naming, nasa mga Php200 po ata ‘yun,” says Althea.

Roylo also made sure that the slide and swing would be safe when used by their 21-month-old son, Aden. “May mga tools kasi ‘yung mga pinsan ni hubby, pang-furniture. Sinigurado rin niya ‘yung pagtanggal sa mga matutulis na part, at talagang sinecure ni hubby sa mga kabitan niya,” Althea adds.

Althea, who is based in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, says they are just a simple family. “We planned to buy po talaga ‘yung slide and swing, pero mas ok po kung DIY siya,” she shares.

She says Roylo also wanted to make an effort for Aden. “’Yung effort mo para sa anak mo, na gagawin mo lahat para sa kanya. Lahat po ng kaya niya (Roylo) kasing gawin na DIY, gagawin niya lalo na kung meron naman pong gamit. ‘Di ka na gagastos ng mahal.”

The DIY slide and swing set just took 2 days to build. Althea says their son was overjoyed upon seeing his new “toys.”

Of course, since he is still young, Althea makes sure to supervise his play at all times. “Super happy po siya, alam niya na kasing mag-appreciate,” the mom shares. “He just kept on saying ‘wow!’”
