GET SPOTTED: Tan Arellano Vitug of Spotted Online
Step out in style with Tan Vitug’s unique accessories.by Marla Miniano .
The Mompreneur: Tan Arellano-Vitug, accessories designer, registered nurse, and mom to 9-year-old Andie.
The Business: SPOTTED , an online store featuring trendy, high-quality, handcrafted accessories such as statement necklaces, pretty bracelets, and colorful bag charms.
How It Started: “I've always been interested in fashion, despite the fact that I grew up with three brothers! These days, I want to be experimental with my style but there are times when I just want to be in my comfy white tee and jeans—and what’s a better way to jazz up a simple tee than accessorizing? Accessories can easily turn a plain outfit from blah to wow, and can make or break your overall look. The main idea behind this business (which I share with my sisters-in-law Cheryl and Abi) is to provide pieces that are unique and edgy, yet affordable. It's fun to create different looks just by throwing on accessories.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Why It’s Unique: “Key parts of our accessories are made from scratch, and we're not afraid to experiment with colors. We don't mass produce—our items are very limited in stock.”
Fashion Inspiration: “I like Kate Moss, Mary Kate Olsen, Rachel Zoe, and Agyness Deyn for their edgy style, confidence, and individuality. They can pull off anything! I check out fashion magazines to see what’s already in the market, but I get ideas for my designs from just about anywhere.”
Customer Care: “We've been getting pretty good feedback from our clients. Some even order one design in different colors. During bazaars, they insist on buying the pieces we're wearing!”
Work-Life Balance: “I feel lucky to be able to do what I love and still get to spend quality time with my daughter. For moms who want to start a business, try to get your child involved. When things become too hectic, I ask my daughter to "work" with me. I give her a sketchpad so she can doodle designs and mix and match colors. Sometimes, I even get my ideas from her. There was one bazaar where she had a basket with small stuff she wanted to sell, like phone charms, gummy bracelets, and erasers. She called it Andie's Corner.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
