Yes, There's Kilig, But Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha Also Shows What It Means To Be A Good ParentThis K-Drama inspires us to be better versions of ourselves.by Angela Baylon .
Since its release, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha has stayed in the top 10 shows of Netflix in the Philippines. But more than the kilig from the two main leads, the latest K-Drama obsession has also reserved some screen time to offer life lessons to its viewers.
If you haven't seen it (catch up on the episodes this weeked stat!), Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha follows the story of dentist Hye-jin (played by Shin Mina) and her decision to move out of the bustling city. She ends up in a quiet and slow-paced seaside village where she meets Dusik (played by Kim Seonho) and gains a family through the local community.
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha lessons for parents
With 12 episodes already out, a handful of scenes touch on the parent-child relationship. Here are the top three quotes we thought are worth sharing:
What does it mean to be a good parent?
"Do you know what it means to be a good parent? It's staying healthy for a long time. They shouldn't endure pain to save money for their children. They should take care of themselves." -Hye-jinADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
While every parent only wants the best for their children, Hye-jin speaks for every child whose hearts break whenever they see their parents sacrificing more than enough for their sake. For Hye-jin, parents forgetting to take care of themselves is not an act of selflessness but rather selfishness.
When parents and children disagree
"At times, you guys may bicker because you don't always see eye to eye, but he always has nothing but love for you." -Lee Myung-Shin
In episode 9, Hye-jin's father and stepmother paid a visit to Gongjin but the family reunion turned sour when her father expressed disapproval to Dusik for being an orphan. Although Hye-jin's stepmother offered no excuse for her father's attitude, she also reminded Hye-jin of her father's unconditional love for her.
Celebrating your children's achievements
"I-jun, I'm so proud that you won the prize. But we would be still doing this even if you hadn't. What we're celebrating is the fact that you worked hard. To me, that's more important than the prize itself." -Yeo Hwa-JungCONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
Here, Yeo Hwa-jung (played by Lee Bong-ryeon) exemplifies how parents should view their children's achievements. First, she assured her child that their bond as a family would remain no matter what. She then imparts to her son an important life lesson to not be fixated solely on achievements and awards but to remember the value of hard work and perseverance..
With 12 episodes already out, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha still has 4 episodes to air until October 17 on Netflix.
