  • Aga Muhlach revealed that aside from being a strict dad, he also did not spoil his twins while growing up.

“I was a strict dad sa kanila growing up, namamalo ako. Meron akong gano’n. Pero para sa akin ang mali, mali. Hindi pwedeng maging tama,” related the 48-year-old former matinee idol, during the promotion of his latest movie, Seven Days, last October 5.

His twins with wife Charlene Gonzalez, Atasha and Andres, are turning 16 years old this year. The actor also has another son, Luigi or Igi Boy, who is now in his 30s and has three kids of his own. Luigi's mom is Aga’s former girlfriend, actress Janice de Belen.

The ABS-CBN actor said he taught his twins early on that if they want something in life, they have to work hard for it, just like what Aga did when he was young. Aga was already working as an actor when he was just 6 years old.

“Yung disiplina sa kanila na lumalaki sila sa marangyang buhay, parang I make sure that it’s not easy,” Aga explained.

“Parang whatever you guys are experiencing, it’s because I worked. I wasn’t born like this,” he said, referring to his humble beginnings.

Growing up, Aga told his kids the value of hard work. “’So you guys don’t think you are born like this, okay? You will work. You will have to finish your school; you will have to work.’ Ganon ang sinasabi ko sa kanila.”

“If you think you’re gonna get something from us, you know, like cars, I’m gonna invest for a home for you when you get old, sabi ko, it’s not gonna happen. So they know that. Growing up, alam na nila.

“[Nakatanim] na sa puso’t isipan nila ‘yan and sabi ko parang, ‘Because I want you to experience life, real life, like mag-aral kayo, di kayo mag-aral, [it’s] up to you. If you want it the hard way, do it the hard way. If you want it the easy way, then be disciplined, di ba? Parang gano’n. Pero don’t expect na I’m gonna work and save up for you.”

However, Aga and Charlene are resolved to give their kids quality education. “But [they'll] get the best education, definitely. Yun [ang] kaya naming ibigay sa kanila talaga,” he concluded.
