Kylie Padilla has no regrets when it comes to her relationship with Aljur Abrenica.
Kylie recently sat down with Cosmo.ph to talk about her relationship with her parents, co-parenting with Aljur, and being a single mom to her kids, Alas and Axl.
No regrets
Kylie and her ex-husband Aljur had a very public breakup to say the least. They first started dating and confirmed their relationship in 2011, broke up in 2014, then got back together in 2016. By January 2017, Kylie was reportedly pregnant and in the same month, the couple also announced their engagement. Kylie gave birth to their firstborn, Alas Joaquin, in August 2017, and the couple officially married in December 2018. In September 2019, Kylie and Aljur attended the ABS-CBN ball together, with Kylie pregnant with their second child, Axl, whom she gave birth to in December 2019. Kylie first hinted at marriage troubles with a cryptic Instagram post in February 2021, and by July 2021, Kylie’s dad, Robin Padilla confirmed that the two had separated. Kylie confirmed the split and revealed that she and Aljur are working on a healthy co-parenting relationship a day after.
Regarding all this, Kylie says, “I have no regrets naman. I just wish that some things remained private.”
“Kasi lahat naman tayo, ano eh, pagdadaanan natin eh. It’s part of life too, ‘di ba? Not all loves are meant to be forever. Yung pinakamasakit lang talaga is mine was so public. And ang daming involved na hindi naman involved noong una.”
One thing that Kylie seemed to regret is that her kids were there to witness everything, and no one gave them any consideration. “Sometimes, I just wish hindi nagka-ganun. Kasi ‘pag highs, okay ka kapag public eh. Iyun iyung masaya eh. Pero kapag lows na, nawawala minsan iyung line that we shouldn’t cross. My kids were there also. I think nakalimutan na there were kids who were also processing. So, hanggang ngayon, minsan na, ano, gusto ko magsalita na, please, just respect.”
But Kylie would not do anything differently, and reveals that she and Aljur are friends now and are co-parenting. “Nung nag-kabalikan kami, I really needed a friend. And I knew that he was a friend. Kasi okay naman kami as friends eh. Gaya ngayon, ‘di ba? We’re co-parenting now. Meron talaga kami na-establish na friendship. No, I wouldn’t have done things differently.”

I would rather be who I am now, a mom, a young mom with two kids, single. Walang kapalit, eh. Walang kapalit talaga iyung, iyung mga ngiti ng mga anak ko. So no regrets.”

Kylie’s strength
Kylie also revealed the most important thing she learned: that of prioritizing herself and walking away from any situation that’s not good for her. “It’s not about how much you love and care for a person, it’s about choosing to end a cycle that hurts more than it protects.”
“Hindi ako papayag na makita ng mga anak ko na malungkot ako nang matagal. Because, my mom is very self-sacrificing and I appreciate her for that. Sobrang giving na tao ng mom ko. But, I wish din that she did something for herself. She really sacrificed everything.”

Kylie’s mom is the former actress, Liezl Sicangco, who raised her and her siblings in Australia. Her dad, Robin Padilla, had an active career in showbiz back then so they had a long-distance relationship with him. Of that time, Kylie says, “For a while, when I was a kid, confused ako bakit minsan wala iyung dad ko, hindi pa in-explain masyado na iyun na nga, nagwo-work siya. And then, andun kami sa Australia. Tapos, nami-miss ko siya. I just remember the feeling of always missing my dad and wondering when he’s gonna come home.”
She credits her grounded upbringing to her mom, “I really appreciate her for that kasi I don’t think I’d be the same person kung dito ako lumaki and my dad’s an artista. It’d be very different kasi in Australia, we weren’t treated like we were anak ng artista.”

She recounted that when her sister, Queenie Padilla said that she wanted to be an actress, Robin had one condition, that “they should only star in action movies ala Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft.” Kylie said, “Gusto niya ilabas namin iyung side na ‘yon. Iyung empowered woman side. Kasi kulang sa ganon nung time na yun before in the Philippines. So, oo naman ako. Kasi, na-enjoy ko naman talaga.”
Truly, Kylie is living up to her empowered woman image in real life. She’s not allowing her past mistakes to define her, she’s taking control of her and her kids’ life, and she’s ready for more challenging roles career-wise.
