Marian Wants Zia to Know: Beauty From the Inside Is What Matters

  • Motherhood is one of the most demanding roles a woman can fulfill, and Kapuso actress Marian Rivera is like most moms: she wants to be the best she can be at it.

"Hanggat kaya ng time ko, gagawin ko at kasi ginusto ko siya at gusto ko siya, gagawan ko sya ng paraan," Marian said at the launch of the new look of Hana Soft & Smooth Shampoo, a product she has endorsed for almost three years now.

And while the mom juggling act is tough, Marian has a not-so-secret weapon: a husband who adores her. When the family of three went to Siargao to celebrate her birthday, Marian said her sexy beach photos were all husband Dingdong Dantes's idea. "Kaya lalo akong ginaganahan sa buhay kasi alam ko ng palagi syang nandiyan at ako talaga yung apple of the eye niya. Nakakatuwa na ganun sya ka-supportive," Marian added.

Marian's confidence as a woman is apparent in her parenting, too. The career mom admits that she had separation anxiety when she first returned to taping, leaving Zia's side for almost a whole day every other day. "Gusto ko rin namang maging indepenent yung anak ko, kahit paano, pero to the point na ayoko syang pabayaan na nagtatrabaho ako. Alam ko sa sarili ko na nagagampanan ko naman," Marian said.

Marian is firm in raising Zia the way she was brought up, albeit with some modern tweaks.

Education comes first. Echoing what many celeb mom actresses before her have said, Marian doesn't want Zia to enter showbiz. But she understands it may be unavoidable since she takes Zia with her to work at times. "Hindi ko sya pipigilan, pero may isa lang akong hiling sa kanya, kailangan makatapos sya ng pag-aaral bago nya gawin ang pag-aartista," she stressed.

The earlier you teach kids, the better. Marian is proud to share that Zia is already talking, reciting the alphabet and numbers, copying animal sounds, and singing more songs such as "Twinkle, Twinkle," "Baa Baa Black Sheep," and "Rain, Rain, Go Away."

Zia, who's nearing the "terrible two" stage, is already makulit, a trait, Marian says, the little girl may have inherited from her. However, since she has a routine, the little girl seldom throws a fit, like say, when she needs to brush her teeth after waking up in the morning, after every meal, and before going to bed. "Kasi nasanay sya e, mas maganda bata pa lang sinasanay mo na," Marian suggested.

The beauty that matters is inside. The 33-year-old actress, who admits she is "maarte," wants her daughter to know that taking care of herself is important. However, "Anuman ang mangyari, pisikal man yan, hair mo, skin mo, lahat yan nabubura. Pero yung attitude mo towards your parents and sa ibang tao, yun ang pinaka-importante sa akin," Marian stressed.

Find time for what you love. Aside from being a mom and actress, Marian says she finds joy in arranging flowers so she makes sure she finds time for it. "Dun ko nahanap yung sarili ko. At habang ginagawa ko yun, masaya ko," she said. "Kasi para sa akin, yung flower kasi, parang, live life in full bloom. Ang saya mabuhay so 'wag mong sayangin. 'Yan yun pinaka-regalo sa sarili ko."

Marian is happy that Zia is already showing signs of being malambing like her mom. Sometimes, the little girl hugs her mom or her nurses for comfort. "'Pag ginaganun ako ng anak ko, parang natutunaw ako," Marian shared. "Ibang klase talaga kapag may anak ka especially siguro nag-bre-breastfeed ka, iba yung bonding ninyong mag-ina," the breastfeeding advocate added.

For her birthday wish, Marian, like any mom, puts her family first. "Ang pinagdadasal ko lang ang relasyon ko sa asawa ko na mas lalo pa kaming maging matatag, magmahalan kami. At para sa anak ko," she said. "'Pag nanay ka wala kang gustong hangad kundi maging mabuti yung anak mo habang lumalaki siya."
