Marilou Lim of Mommy’s ListAdorable products for your adorable baby!by Emilie N. Lucena .
NAME OF MOMPRENEUR: Marilou Go-Lim
HER BUSINESS IDEA:
Moms are normally very busy so Marilou thought of coming up with a shortlist of great products that she has personally tried and tested on her own baby Sam. She set up an online store which sells a variety of baby products including clothes, accessories, costumes, diapers, lotions, organizers, toys, books and nursing essentials. Compared to other suppliers, she says that her prices are lower; for instance, you can buy bottom shorts for only P140!
HOW IT ALL STARTED:
Due to a difficult pregnancy, Marilou had to stop working. For most of the nine months, she had to be on bedrest. To combat boredom, Marilou surfed the internet and was hooked with the convenience of the online world. She then decided to put up her own online site, a one-stop shop for busy moms who want great products for their babies.
Marilou spent time learning how to make a website and searching for suppliers. Her baby’s unique demands helped her choose only the best items. “When my baby was born, her skin was very sensitive so it prompted me to find organic lotions and creams. Also, my baby’s feet were big so I went searching for comfortable and soft baby shoes in large sizes.” Marilou’s product range gradually grew as her baby’s needs expanded. “When my baby had her first tooth, I found a good toothbrush and I included it in the Mommy’s List line of products.” She also talks to her customers to find out what they need and helps them search for products that could not be found in department stores.
Marilou currently does not sell items she personally makes because manufacturing will take precious time away from her baby, but she eventually plans to do so in the future when her child is older. “My best-selling products are always costumes,” Marilou states, “so I am thinking of venturing into my own line eventually. Ready-made costumes are usually pricey so I want to be able to create affordable ones.” In the meantime, she wants to help stay-at-home businessmoms by marketing their products online so they can concentrate on making items and not have to worry about selling them.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
