'Sabi Ng Bunso Ko, Superpower Ko Daw 'Yung Madaling Magalit'

     One of the #MySmartParentingStory finalists is Karen Mei Caro, a mom of two from Isabela. When asked what she wished someone told her about motherhood, she answered, “You don’t have to be perfect. Walang perpektong nanay pero lagi mong piliin ang maging mabuting nanay.”

    She added, “Hindi mali na mahalin din natin ang ating sarili. Kasi deserve din natin ‘yon. Pagkatapos nating maglinis ng bahay, magligpit ng kalat at ma-stress sa makukulit na mga anak, kailangan din nating magpaganda at mag-relaks, para kahit araw-araw tayong pagod at ngarag, mukha pa rin tayong tourist spot.”

    Karen’s Smart Parenting story is about how she calmed down and loved herself.

    Noon, isa akong nanay na laging stressed. Sabi nga ng bunso ko, superpower ko daw 'yung madaling magalit. Naiinis kasi ako kapag magulo, makalat at maingay sa bahay.

    Naaburido ako kapag may sumisigaw ng “Mama!” lalo na kapag paulit-ulit. Iihi lang naman ako pero kung makasigaw para naman na akong pumunta ng Hongkong.

    Inaamin ko, nagagalit ako sa mga anak ko sa mga ganoong pagkakataon. Nasisigawan ko sila. Pero hanggang dun lang. Nagso-sorry din ako agad sa kanila kasi nagi-guilty ako.

    Feeling ko, napakasama kong nanay. Minsan, iiyak na lang ako. Minsan, sasabihin ko sa kanila na pagod na pagod na ako. Kasi may mga araw na parang gusto ko nang sumuko at hindi ko na kaya. May mga araw na parang ayoko nang bumangon at hayaan na lang sila. At nang nag-umpisa ang pandemya, napuno ako ng takot at pag-aalala.

    Ngunit mula noong naging member ako ng Smart Parenting at Smart Parenting Village, maraming nabago sa mga pananaw ko bilang isang ina.

    Hindi lang pala ako ang nakakaramdam ng pagod, lungkot, takot at pag-iisa. At naunawaan ko na walang perpektong nanay. Bawat isa sa atin ay mayroong mga kahinaan at pinagdadaanan.

    Sa pamamagitan ng mga kwento at payo na nababasa ko sa Village, natutunan ko kung paano maging mas mabuting nanay sa aking mga anak. Natutunan ko kung paano maging mas kalmado, mas mapagpasensya at mas positibo sa buhay.

    Higit sa lahat, natutunan ko kung paano mahalin ang aking sarili. Sabi nga nila, it's never selfish to love yourself because you are important, too.

    Dalawang beses na ring na-feature ang mga pinadala kong kwento sa Smart Parenting. Naging daan ito upang mai-share ko naman sa iba ang experiences ko.
