It seems even the COVID-19 pandemic cannot dampen Halloween fun this year — it’s one of the holidays that kids look forward to the most, after all. Moms are already planning activities at home and of course, trying to top last year’s Halloween costumes!

On our Smart Parenting Village, Ems Sagunde, a mom of four, shared the costumes that she’s been collecting for her youngest daughters, Ria, 9, and Joy, 7. From Powerpuff Girls to Star Wars, monsters, and dragons, Ems shares that seeing her two girls all dressed up inspires her to be more creative.

“I used to work sa call center but my husband asked me to quit work para mag-focus sa mga bata,” the 43-year-old mom shares in a quick interview through Messenger with SmartParenting.com.ph. “I’m a fan talaga ng mga Disney princesses; my costume collection started when I gave birth to Ria, my third child.”

Over the years, her daughters have worn costumes like Yoda and Darth Vader, Hiccup (from the movie How to Train Your Dragon), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. “I don’t mind pasuotin sila even pang boys na costumes,” she shares.

“Inspiration ko ang dalawa kong maliliit kasi ‘di ko nagawa ‘yan sa mga ate nila,” she adds. “Mga dalaga ‘di mo na mapasuot ng costume, haha!”

While she’s a stay-at-home mom, her costume collection actually helped provide additional income for their family — she opened a rental business and it eventually led to her providing home service photoshoots. She hopes to open her own studio someday.

“Actually kaya madami na rin costumes I’m planning to open a studio someday. ‘Yung pang-nanay at ‘di nakakabutas ng bulsa!”
