Mom we Love: Patricia Morato-RoaIf you enjoyed reading about her in the magazine, here's more about this month's Mom we Love.by Lei Dimarucut-Sison .
Like the birth of our child, we moms mark every milestone thereafter as a momentous occasion that calls for only the best and the nicest that money can buy. One of these milestones is a child’s baptism / dedication. Especially for first-time parents, an event such as a christening has to be planned to the littlest detail.
On this month’s Mom we Love, Smart Parenting magazine chatted with christening wear designer and supplier Patricia Morato-Roa, whose creations are being sold at Rustans (under the brand name Pipa), and whose client base extends to Europe.
SP: What trend do you see nowadays when it comes to christening wear?
Patricia: “Brides preserve their weddings gowns by cutting off the lace (off the veil) and incorporating it into the christening gowns of their babies, which I’ve done a few times. It’s cute [and sentimental]. They say ‘Please find a way to put the lace in my kid’s christening gown.’”
Patricia recalls that the hardest one she’s done so far was to create a christening dress for a couple’s firstborn - a daughter - out of the mom’s wedding gown which was made entirely of “girly-girly lace”. The reason it was so challenging? “They wanted it na if they ever have a boy, it could be used again.” Patricia thus put her talent to work and came up with a gown that her clients were very happy about. “True enough, she’s now pregnant with a boy.”
If you are looking to preserve your child’s christening gown for posterity, one must invest on the material. Patricia tells us that the following fabrics are the best buys:
1. Cotton Batiste – because it’s itch-free for the kid
2. Pina – with cotton lining
3. Swiss voile
