Mommy Treats – Treats for “Milky Mamas” and their BabiesBreastfeeding advocate Tina Santiago-Rodriguez reviews one of the latest mommy- and baby-friendly products to hit the Philippines – Mommy Treats, lactation goodies made by a mom, especially for moms and their babies.
Many nursing moms, especially first-time ones, are almost always on the look-out for products that will help increase and/or improve their milk supply. Most resort to the well-known, traditional malunggay or moringe olifeira, whether in capsule, tea, leaves, powder or other forms (there are now noodles, bread, and even chocolate drinks that are malunggay-enriched). However, moms who dislike the bitter taste that malunggay leaves in the mouth may want alternative ways of helping improve their milk supply.
Now mommies need not look any further. Mommy Treats lactation cookies is now available in the Philippines.
Most mompreneurs would agree that necessity is truly the mother of all inventions, and Mommy Treats is no different. This new mompreneur-run business is the “other baby” of yummymummy Paola Noelle Loot.
Paola is a first-time mom to 6-month old baby Sjöfn Léonie. A graduate of Psychology and currently completing her MA in Counselling Psychology, Paola is a self-professed food-lover, and is always in the kitchen cooking meals from scratch, even attending special cooking classes to broaden her knowledge.
When she gave birth, she was determined to breastfeed her daughter for as long as she needed to. However, like most moms, she was worried that she might not have enough milk. Drinking malunggay pills did not go well with her, so she researched on other ways to increase her milk supply. She eventually ended up making her own lactation cookies, using proven galactagogues (a substance that promotes lactation, usually plant-derived) fenugreek, Omega 3-rich flaxseed and Vitamin B powerhouse Brewer’s Yeast. Initially for her own consumption, she later realized that other breastfeeding moms could benefit from her baked goods.
Thus, Mommy Treats was born. On January 11, 2011 Paola started accepting orders, and has been flooded with requests ever since. I was privileged to sample her treats for this review, and they really do live up to their name: they are literally treats for mommies like me! Yum yum!
Paola sent me several packs of the following Mommy Treats for sampling:ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWCONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
