Since kids spend most of their time indoors, parents keep finding ways to entertain them at home. Two moms did exactly this by turning their kids' toy kitchen sets into functional ones, taking pretend play into a whole new level.
Kitchen sets for children are usually miniature versions of the actual things you can see in a kitchen like stoves, pots, pans, kitchen utensils, and many more. But, what if you can turn these toys into something you can actually use for cooking or washing? Doing this can help your child learn the value of helping out in doing kitchen chores and hone basic cooking skills.
This is what moms Anneli Hilario and Chriszy Karunungan achieved when they transformed their children's kitchen toy sets into something functional.
Making functional kitchen toy sets
Mommies Anneli and Chriszy shared on our online parenting community, Smart Parenting Village, how they made pretend play more entertaining and educational for their kids.
1. Cooking sets for kids
When it comes to pretend play, lutu-lutuan is popular among kids. You might have bought your child those wooden, clay, or plastic kitchen toy sets but what mommy Anneli bought is different because it can actually be used for cooking but is still child-friendly.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

2. Toy kitchen set with a functional sink
If you have a whole kitchen set like what mom Chriszy has, you may be interested in making its sink functional, where your child can wash their hands. Washing hands is extremely important especially now that we’re all trying to avoid COVID-19 infection.
With an automatic water dispenser and soap dispenser, your child won’t have any problems reaching your sink because they can now utilize the functioning sink from their mini kitchen set.
Here's how Chriszy did it:

- Make two opening holes on the sink. This is where the tubes for the dirty and clean water will go.
- Prepare two water containers at the bottom of the sink, one with clean water and one that will catch the dirty water.
- Install the tube for the automatic water dispenser that will be connected to the water container that has clean water.
- Place the automatic water dispenser and the automatic foaming soap dispenser on the countertop.
- Optional: replace the stove with a chopping board.
Complete the functional sink with this automatic water dispenser. This is available on Shopee for Php85.
