  • Lian Paz recently posted her reflections on work and motherhood on Instagram. Her post reads:

“Looking back to the time I was thinking to go out of the country to work para sa future ng mga bata, waah naiiyak ako iniisip ko pa lang…”

The former partner of actor Paolo Contis and mother of 2 says that she considered working abroad to provide for daughters, Xonia and Xalene. She says that she's grateful for the opportunities that God provided for her to provide for her family without going abroad.

“Kaya isa ito sa napakalaking grasya ng Diyos na hindi niya ako hinayaan umabot doon. He always [has] another plan that will make you a better parent, a better person. Ngayon ko lang naisip how the Lord worked in my life so faithfully, hindi Niya ako iniwan kahit kailan, He keeps on pursuing me and with that, I am forever thankful.”

Lian also says that she believes God has forgiven her for her sins.

“The Lord is compassionate and forgiving, this is what I have learned lately as I continue to seek the Lord. The more I know the Lord, the more ashamed I am of the sins I have done and how wonderful it is that He accepts you wholeheartedly, no conditions, He [doesn’t] recall any of it anymore rather, He will encourage you to be more like Him. Glorifying His name as long as we live!”

In 2021, there are an estimated 1.83 million Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), of which 1.10 million are women. Studies have shown the negative impacts of parents’ separation on families and kids. CNN Philippines has previously published an article on the topic, saying “But their [OFW’s] income comes at a high personal cost. Mothers can miss out on entire childhoods. Sometimes their relationship with their children remains damaged and distant, years after they return. Other times, their children’s lives can veer off course without a parent at home.”

    Lian and Paolo Contis

Lian Paz is a former EB Babes dancer who regularly appeared on the popular noontime show ‘Eat Bulaga.’ She also starred in teleseryes Lipgloss (2008-2009) and Enchanted Garden (2012-2013) on TV 5, and Prinsesa ng Buhay Ko (2012-2013) on GMA 7. Her 4-year relationship with actor Paolo Contis ended on September 12, 2012. Lian became the sole provider for their two daughters, Xonia and Xalene.

    Lian and John Cabahug

Lian got a fresh start in 2013 when she crossed paths with her former schoolmate, businessman John Cabahug. John showed his sincerity to Lian and her daughters early on in the relationship, with Lian saying back then, “He doesn’t take me out alone on a date. Lagi niya isasama mga anak ko kaya ako nahulog sa kanya. Yung respect niya to me as a mother, and he’s very fond of the kids. Kaya iyun, inaya ako sa Cebu naman to visit.”

John was also the one who encouraged Lian to take a two-year culinary course, which she was able to do and finish in Cebu. Lian and her daughters permanently moved to Cebu in 2015, “Pinag-aral niya ako. Then eventually, we decided to live together here [in Cebu] and bring my kids para hindi mahirap pari’t parito sa Cebu to Manila and vice versa.”

In 2016, Lian and John had their own daughter, Niña. The couple is currently raising their daughters, Lexi-17, Xonia-12, Xalene-11, and Niña-7 in Cebu.

In a previous interview, Lian said, “We are a blended family, but we are one. Nakaganda rin na dumating baby namin ni John kaya nagkaroon talaga ng strong connection ang mga anak ko and his daughter.
