Remember MightyMagulang? Her TikTok video on the Philippine economy during the time of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. trended on social media in September 2021. Well, Mona Magno Veluz aka Mighty Magulang is back, this time with a video titled “Who are you voting for?”
It’s a post that resonates with many parents and a great reminder that the candidate we choose in the next elections will have an impact on our children's future.
“I am voting for my children,” she begins her post. She then enumerates what qualities they should have.
“I want them to have a future where leaders are not demigods but human public servants whose positives must outweigh the negatives, where leaders …
- Enrich the Filipino people not themselves, not their friends
- Are hardworking, intelligent, credentialed, honest and morally upright;
- Are results oriented and can track and report their performance in measurable terms;
- Listen to the most vulnerable and help them—the poor the sick, those with disabilities, those who are different from who they are;
- Model behaviors that I want to see in my children
“So ang boto ko po ay para sa aking mga anak,” she says.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
To date, her post uploaded on Oct. 12, 2021 has gained more than 9,700 likes and 612 comments. While some have commented her candidate doesn’t exist and that she can “dream on,” she says that candidates are only human but what’s important is that their positive qualities should be more than their negative qualities.
Mona, who began making TikTok content in July of this year, focuses mainly on history and genealogy topics. She has been a genealogist for the past 20 years and holds a Master's Degree in Applied Business Economics. She is also the national president of the Autism Society Philippines.
When the political posts started appearing, she says she noticed a lot of personality-based attacks on the platform.
“When my videos started having a following, visitors began asking me who I was voting for,” says Mona, who to date has 361.1K TikTok followers and a total of 2.7M likes. “It was an opportune time to remind people to have [some] criteria, and not just be driven by personalities,” she tells SmartParenting.com.ph.
When asked why it is important to remind the public to vote wisely and set their criteria, the mom of three says a lot rides on this election and one of that is the pandemic and its accompanying uncertainty.
“As parents, we have the fundamental responsibility of keeping our family healthy — physically, mentally, spiritually, and financially. We need the right leaders to help us out,” she says.
She adds that it is more important to focus on an ideal and purpose rather than a candidate and in her case, she says, “I think of my children and their future.”CONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
