5 Tributes to Lolas Who Love Their Apos Like There Is No TomorrowThis Mother's Day, we give way to five inspiring stories of grandmothers whose love for family is boundlessby SmartParenting Staff .
Over at Parent Chat, we asked moms to send in their tributes to their mothers, the lolas who love their apos like there is no tomorrow. We received many entries and made a tough decision to send one to a staycation (read her story here). Then, we decided we wanted to share several entries because their tributes to their moms represent the gratitude and love many of our readers have for the woman who gave birth to them. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and for many moms, that village is led by their mother who will drop everything for her apos.
Despite finishing only elementary education, Nanay Paquita managed to send her 11 children to college and continues to inspire them to be the best parent for her apos. This tribute is by one of her children, Avegirl Perez-Limjap, a mom of two and one on the way.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
My mom, Nanay Paquita, 78 whose hair is still black, managed to send her 11 children to college (one sibling is an internist cardiologist) despite just having an elementary education, and I have seldom met a woman as strong in faith and love filled like my Nanay Paquita.
Nanay, you are an inspiration, and today I am giving you an award as one of the "Best Mothers in the Universe." You inspire me to be the best mom to my children. You continue to bring much love to our family with your smile and generosity.
Maraming salamat for always being there. I know you still dream of traveling, and you want to live for 100 years or more. My prayer is that our Father in Heaven will still grant the desires of your heart even in your old age and I can help fulfill those dreams.
You are my superstar, my superhero, my super nanay!ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

Karen May Mira, her three kids, and husband took this photo during a trip to Cagayan de Oro to surprise her mom Marilyn to show her their appreciation for everything she has done.
Ever since my mother, Marilyn, became a lola, she has never failed to make my children feel her love. She has fed them, took them to their pedia visits, gave them their baths, and, of course, showered them with presents.
Even now that we live thousands of miles apart, she always finds a way to be present in my three children's lives as best as she could. Aside from daily video calls, my mother also travels from Cagayan de Oro City to Manila three times a year (sometimes more) to be with her apos. She arrives a few days after New Year to celebrate their (my parents') wedding anniversary with us and, just recently, my youngest son's birthday, too. She flies back to Manila by August for my 12-year old eldest son's birthday and returns early December to drop off many Christmas presents and greet my daughter a happy birthday in advance.
Last April, my husband, my three kids, and I decided to fly to Cagayan de Oro to surprise her. With my sister and my father as my accomplices, we managed to sneak in the house without her knowing. As soon as the kids were positioned near my parents' bedroom door, my father called out to her that they need to leave the house already or they'd be late for their lunch date.
My mother was so surprised when she opened the door and saw her three beloved apos in front of her. She couldn't stop smiling and shouting in happiness. I believed she shed a few tears too. "Mission: Surprise Lola" was a great success!ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Lanie L., a mom of two kids, thanks her mother-in-law Mercy for her friendship. She is "a mother-in-law most married women will pray for."
The photo was taken when my mother-in-law went with us to HongKong Disneyland. It was a memorable trip for all of us because it was our first time to go abroad with our in-laws. It was Mom and Dad's 50th year anniversary as well, and their relationship, which they kept intact despite all the struggles, financially, emotionally and their age, inspired us to keep our marriage strong.
We are very thankful to our mom for being the best mom-in-law and lola to my daughters. She is our idol when it comes to kindness and positivity all the time. My daughters admire her for her beauty and sense of style. She is someone who can carry any outfit, may it be branded or not. She is my go-to person when it comes to personal care, and my friend when I need someone to talk to about her son, hahaha.
I feel blessed because unlike other married women who don't like their mothers in law, I love mine.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

Marisol Gonzales calls her mother "the greatest gift."
This Mother's Day, I want to share how lucky we are to have you as our Mama.
Hindi ko kailangan ang ibang tao o mga kaibigan ko sa oras na may problema ako, ikaw lang ang makausap ko Ma, okay na okay na ako! I love you, Mama!ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

Janette C. Madlangbayan says this photo was taken two years ago. Her mom passed before she could witness her granddaughter's birth.
Mama, It’s been 10 years since you left us. I know you are happy there in heaven. No more pain, no more suffering.
You now have two cute granddaughters, Janna and Cassie. I know that if you were still here you'd make cute dresses for your apos like what you did for your nieces. I can imagine how you would react with your apos if you are here.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Thank you for all your hardships and being the strength of our family. You had a weak heart, but you were the strongest. You pushed us to our limits, and now I can say that we are all successful, thanks to you and Papa. Don’t worry about Papa and us; we will take care of him. We love and surely miss you, Mama. Happy Mother’s Day!
