Looks like Dahlia Amelie is getting a bit of a geography lesson. Anne Curtis just shared that her family is vacationing in Bohol.

“The only ‘chocolate’ you can have unli of Dahlia Amelie. Welcome to Bohol my bb,” writes mom Anne as a caption to a photo of the two of them looking at the famous Chocolate Hills.

Dahlia Amelie was also enjoying the province’s different landscapes. On the same day, Anne shared a photo of her toddler playing with sand on the beach.

It’s also a family reunion of sorts. Dahlia Amelie’s aunt Jasmine Curtis-Smith and uncle Thomas James are also in Bohol with them.

A previous Smart Parenting article entitled 'Kids Prefer Family Vacations Over Toys, Survey Shows' says kids prefer family vacations over toys, according to a 2017 survey by YouGov in partnership with Vrbo and FamilyFun magazine.

What is it kids enjoy about family vacations? “According to the survey, 46% of kids said seeing a new place or trying new things is their favorite part of vacationing.”

3 Benefits Of Spending Time In Nature

Parents reports that “kids who play outside are smarter, happier, more attentive, and less anxious than kids who spend more time indoors.”

A trip to the beach is a fun way to make memories as a family and allow kids to spend time outdoors. Here are three advantages when kids spend time outdoor.

1. Movement

If your child spends most of her time indoors, she may not be working out her body as much as she can. Running around or even just taking a walk is much more beneficial to a child’s health than parents think.

Child Mind Institute says exercise is good for both a child’s body and mind. Exercise “seems to make them more focused, which is especially beneficial for kids with ADHD.”

2. A sense of wonder

Traveling is beneficial for a child’s brain development, and so is spending time in nature. Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder, says nature creates a sense of wonder for kids that can’t be provided by any other environment in the same Child Mind Institute article.

Whether it’s through a beach trip like Anne Curtis and Dahlia Amelie or just by going to a park, allowing kids to observe natural life gives birth to curiosity about how life and the world work.

3. Creativity and imagination

Unstructured play in nature “allows kids to interact meaningfully with their surroundings,” reports Child Mind Institute.

“They can think more freely, design their own activities, and approach the world in inventive ways.”
Kids can keep gaining these advantages by increasing and being deliberate about the time they spend outdoors.
