  • El Padre is flying solo—literally! Nico Bolzico and Solenn Heussaff shared on their respective Instagram accounts that Nico would be flying to Buenos Aires, Argentina with their daughter Tili. It’s their first time flying alone together and get this—it’s a 36-hour trip!

Before flying he shared that Solenn would not be coming due to her pregnancy. The two are expecting their second baby soon. On his latest post presumably of Tili and Solenn’s goodbye, he said “Don’t cry mama, we got this!” And a new El Padre hashtag is born—#TiliElPadreSoloTrip.

Over at her own account, Solenn shared a photo of her husband and daughter and captioned “30 days away” with a heartbreak emoji. Looks like she got a lot of kisses in before parting ways. The next morning, she shared a baby bump photo and reminded herself that she won’t really be alone–their second-born will be keeping her company!

What happened when Nico flew alone with Tili

We loved seeing Nico’s play-by-play of the first leg of their flight, starting with Tili riding their carry on luggage. Next we see a photo of Tili busy working on an activity book and Nico feels he’s doing well. He captions it, “First Challenge Accomplished.”

However Nico and Tili hit a speed bump in their plans: Tili’s finishing her activity books faster than expected! At this point the two have only waited for 45 minutes to board but Till has gone through 3 painting books already. “I brought 4 in total… Houston we have a problem!”

Thankfully despite a delay in their flight, Tili is kept occupied with toys and making friends at the gate. After a couple of hours, Nico updates his Instagram: Touchdown, Doha! Nico and Tili can be seen singing in this Instagram story and he shares that the next leg of their trip is a 14 hour flight to Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Solenn uploads a photo of Tili sleeping in the plane next to Nico while Nico shares a photo of exactly how many hours Tili slept. Looks like mommy wants a full report of how Tili’s doing every minute! We’re sure moms can relate to this when they leave the kids with dad!

Looks like Nico and Tili still have another flight to get through after the 14-hour flight. Best of luck, Nico! We love a hands-on, involved Dad who doesn’t “babysit” their own child. It’s called fatherhood.

Effect of fathers in early childhood development

The role dads play in child development is always stressed in parenting resources. This previous article in Smart Parenting stresses that dads are just as important as moms in child development.

Below are a few ways fathers contribute to a child’s growth, particularly in the toddler years:

    1. Stronger educational and developmental outcomes

“Children with involved, caring fathers have stronger educational and developmental outcomes with better linguistic and cognitive capabilities,” writes Clinton Boyd Jr. PhD and Postdoctoral Associate at The Samuel Dubois Cook Center on Equity at Duke University for Start Early: Champions for Early Learning.

    2. Regulating feelings and behavior

Boyd also says that “Fathers that spend time playing with their infants and preschoolers in stimulating, engaging activities help their children learn how to regulate their feelings and behavior.”

He explains in the same article that he can also personally attest to this impact as a father himself.

    3. Confidence and empathy.

“The presence of a father can be linked to a more stable future behaviour, where children grow to be more responsible and cautious,” reports Canadian daycare Rainforest Learning Centre Inc. “By talking and listening to their children, fathers can make their children feel more confident and safe, more likely to build social connections.”

The article also reports that children with actively involved fathers are more open socially and empathetic.
