A learning method in the 80s did no wonders for me. Private tutorials and after-school work allowed me to excel academically and graduate a year ahead. Today, as an athlete, businessman and freelance writer, I try to squeeze in a book here and there, insisting on materials of substance, online (like this one!) or on print.  Coupled with a positive attitude, Dyslexia did not become an obstacle for me, though I also credit plenty of educators for their patience.

Whether or not your child has a learning disability, the written word should be introduced to him nonetheless. A new program is now available in the Philippines that may cultivate the love for reading, communication and academic development in a progressive atmosphere, something I wish existed in the 80s!

Fast ForWord Program: Literacy program for children with learning disabilities
The Fast ForWord Program is based on 30 years of intensive research by professionals worldwide. They base learning on cognitive skills that enhance everything from pronunciation to memory, grammar to sound structure awareness, comprehension and “word decoding” or the use of familiar words to figure out new ones. Literacy is gently accorded to the student, as the system is non-traditional and personalized. According to them, three to five days of sessions per week for 8-12 weeks can put a child ahead in reading skills by one to two years.

Effective for all types of developing minds including those with ADHD, dyslexia or other learning disabilities, this program is run locally by psychology and speech therapy professionals.  It is software-based to allow for a gentle assimilation of modern science, and utilizes personalized instruction, thus may give your child the learning edge.
