  • A hungry baby can be like a, well, fiery dragon — he may not breathe fire, but that crying can feel like it can damage your sense of hearing. As a mom, you don't want to reach that point, of course, so you kind of drop everything when it's the baby's feeding time. British actress Gemma Whelan, who plays Yara Greyjoy on the HBO epic series Game of Thrones, knows this pretty well, judging from the photo she shared on social media.

On the night that Episode 3 of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones aired, Gemma posted on Instagram a photo of herself dressed in full Yara character — with fake dirt and blood — cradling and breastfeeding her daughter.

"Enjoy tonight's episode guys! Yara's got some big news," Gemma wrote, adding the hashtags #GoT, #HBO, and #plottwistahoy. Some people thought her post was a spoiler, but the actress was quick to set the record straight that her photo or caption did not have any. She was just sharing her a snippet of her life while shooting Game of Thrones's last season of the show.

Gemma revealed that the photo was taken after filming season 8's first episode. The mom, while promoting the show, confirmed in an interview with the early morning talk show, Good Morning Britain, that her daughter was on set with her "for the whole thing" because she was breastfeeding.

She had to breastfeed in costume because she was "tied into her armor." She added, "It’s quite difficult to get to yourself, let’s put it that way."

Many people lauded Gemma for breastfeeding on the job, calling her a role model and an inspiration. "What a beautiful and empowering photo," one comment read.

And let's give that breastfeeding-friendly costume a standing ovation. Bravo to whoever made it!

HBO also commented on Gemma's post, describing the character and the actress. "Aggressive fighter, loving mother," the cable channel's comment read.

There were also few who couldn't help but make a pun out of House Greyjoy's words or motto, "What is dead may never die." In Gemma's case, "What is fed may never cry." It's brilliant as it is true: a child who is fed and full would have little reason to cry and make a fuss.

In case you're not familiar with the character, Yara (Asha in the books) is a fierce warrior-commander. The tribulations and battles she went through in the series has earned her a spot with fellow strong women characters Danaerys, Sansa, or Arya.

Gemma, who gave birth to her daughter in 2017 and whom she claimed is the only person in her life who knows how the Game of Thrones will end, doesn't look like she's ready to wean her daughter from the breast just yet.

"She biiiiiiig, but she still loving the boob! Out and proud suckling away!" Gemma shared on Instagram last March 2019. She added that one lady slipped a card to her read, "Thank you for breastfeeding in public," which had the hashtag #normalizebreastfeeding.

The nursing mama had never thought of the deed as not normal, but the card "made her feel very cool."
