The TV host and his wife announced the pregnancy through a video posted on their Instagram accounts, writing: “Two years married… and now our greatest blessing is on the way.” The vidoe includes footage of celebrity friends and their emotional reactions after learning the news, including Darren Espanto, Donny Pangilinan, Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis, Coco Martin, and members of BINI.

The news of the new addition to their family is especially emotional, as Maiqu was previously diagnosed with dermatomyositis, a rare autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness, inflammation, and skin issues. In late 2024, she shared that she is in clinical remission and that her symptoms are barely detectable, a significant improvement in her condition.

Shortly before Maiqui’s remission, Robi also posted a video on his birthday, wishing for Maiqui’s illness to be gone. He added at the time, “My plan in the next five years is to be a better house-band and husband, and hopefully, next year, when the Lord permits it, and when her condition permits it, depende sa clearance ng doctor, I hope to introduce you to a baby Robi as well or baby Maiqui or why not twins, him, her.”

“This is what we wish for na matagal na”

Robi recently spoke to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) via phone call, where he happily talked about the new chapter in their marriage.

“I’m so excited definitely this is what we wish for na matagal na,” Robi said. “The journey didn’t come easy for us.”

“There was an issue with Maiqui before regarding health.”

“We had to figure it out first and also treatment muna. Napagtagumpayan naman namin.”

“We’re so happy, syempre, after that, when the doctor told us, ‘Okay, may go signal na to have a baby,’ like a couple of months and that’s it.”

Maiqui’s pregnancy and health condition

Robi also shared more about Maiqui’s health condition: “Remission, totally, it’s hard to say, but because of her lifestyle, okay na…”

“The remission, parang nawala yung clinical term ng mga doctors, pero syempre, close monitor pa rin, lalo na sensitive yung pregnancy ni Maiqui,” he added.

He further said that the doctors advised Maiqui to refrain from puyat. “Syempre we listen to our doctors din—her OB lalo na yung autoimmune doctor niya. Bawal magpuyat generally.”

“Pero pag sumisipa na, nagigising siya. Pag sumisipa siya, sumisipa rin si Maiqui. Wala naman akong masisipa.”

The TV host also openly talked about how he found out they were expecting.

“It was after the Idol Kids’ finals. And then, when we got home kasi, parang Friday pa lang prior to my birthday, gusto niyang mag-test na kasi iba na yung nararamdaman niya.”

“Sabi ko, ‘Wag muna, kasi finals baka mawala ako sa focus. Siguro after ng finals.”

“That happened after the finals, we test din and then we got the news.”

Robi celebrated his birthday on September 27, while the finals of Idol Kids Philippines, the show he hosts, happened on September 28.

Their family’s reaction

“First apo siya sa side ko kaya super excited sila,” Robi shared.

“Syempre, ang request ng mga lalake, di ba, lalake? Pero dumating na ako sa point na basta healthy, okay na yun. Gender? Wala pa eh.”

Robi also admitted that seeing Maiqui endure the first trimester gave him newfound respect and appreciation for moms, especially his wife.

“Ang hirap nung first trimester, totoo pala yun, we might release a vlog soon about that. Grabe, iba yung respeto ko sa mga nanay, grabe talaga.”

“May morning sickness siya during the first trimester, pero ngayong second tri, wala na masyado.”

When asked about Maiqui’s cravings, Robi answered, “Maalat saka matamis, wala namang specific.”

Congratulations, Robi and Maiqui!
