Iya Villania credits Crossfit as one of the reasons she has a relatively smooth pregnancy. Now almost six months pregnant with her second baby, Iya seems to be making it her mission to inspire pregnant women how keeping an active lifestyle while having a bun in the oven is perfectly fine and for you and the baby — as long as you have your doctor's permission, of course.
The preggo host recently shared a series of videos on Instagram Stories that showed how she does Crossfit even with her growing belly. She did pull-ups, pistol squats, weightlifting, and a headstand, plus offering a few tips on the side.
"Pistols (a move where the person squats on one leg as she extends the other in front) is still a go for now... until my belly gets in the way," Iya wrote in her Instagram Story.
When doing the lifts, the fit preggo mom revealed that she exposes her baby bump now while working out, so she can "check for any unnecessary strain" on her belly.
Iya mentioned she was careful about getting any "coning" action in her abdominal section. Knocked-up Fitness defines coning during pregnancy as "seeing a ridge or bulge popping out down the midline of your belly when doing an exercise incorrectly or an exercise that puts too much stress on the abdominals."
Iya wrote, "Coning is a no-no so keeping an eye out gives you a chance to scale down the movement." She also cited a reference to a guide to "A Practical Guide to Scaling" for preggos to ensure her followers that it's perfectly safe. (In Crossfit, you can "scale back" the weight or movement to a level that is comfortable for you.)
"I do what I can. Kung hindi kaya, hindi ko pipilitin. At saka, I'm carefully listening to my body," Iya stressed on another post on her Instagram Stories and in her past interviews. She rests when she feels tired and out of breath and most especially if she feels there's something off.
And, sometimes to cap off this fit momma's workout, Iya has a little fun sled-pushing with Primo on board.
