  • Read on to learn more about how xylitol consumption helps prevent cavities.

Mäkinen adds, “Cavity prevention can be obtained by chewing xylitol gum daily. Typically, taking 5 to 7 grams daily of xylitol after meals and sugary snacks is best.” This includes Lotte Xylitol, the first dental health gum in the Philippines to use more than 50 percent xylitol as a sweetener, which helps in preventing dental caries by reducing Mutans Streptococci.

Aside from preventing the growth of bacteria-causing cavity, gums like Lotte Xylitol also aids in stabilizing the PH levels in the mouth to promote re-mineralization of teeth enamel. It also contains calcium phosphates that help rebuild the teeth.

Kauko K. Mäkinen is a research pioneer and renowned expert of xylitol and is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Turku, Turku, Finland and at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, United States. He is also an affiliate professor at the University of Washington, Seattle, United States.
