  • Jessie J is now a mom!

The 35-year-old English singer who popularized the hit songs "Price Tag," "Bangbang," and "Flashlight" delivered her first child, a baby boy, via caesarean section in May. Today, Jessie revealed that her baby daddy is Chanan Safir Colman, a professional basketball player.

Jessie had a miscarriage in 2021. She announced her pregnancy early this year, and mentioned in an Instagram post that she spent 9 months preparing for a natural birth. She shared a video of her dancing and twerking 5 minutes before her surgery.

"Strict food, the epi no, yoga, swimming, hypnobirthing methods. I had a tens machine, a birthing comb, I wanted a pool birth ideally with no medication. BUT this was MY plan to stay disciplined and focused. I knew full well it could and would most likely go in a completely different direction," the singer said. Nevertheless, she maintained, she is open to surrendering to the safest way to deliver her baby.

However, Jessie shared that she had a scan at around 40 weeks, and the baby was "completely the wrong way around and stuck" as he was bigger for his size.

She explained, "I did everything to try and turn him for 2 months but he said “Nah mum I wanna make an entrance out the roof, not the front door.”

Jessie was then advised by her doctors to have a planned C-section for the baby's safety.

"I went into active labour the night before and feeling all the feels but mostly just excitement for us to meet our baby boy," she added.

The singer said she's been asked several times whether she felt like she missed out on the birth she wanted. Her response: "I had a birth and it was everything I wanted because I got him at the end of it, that’s all that matters."

In an Instagram story, Jessie followed up on her post.

"I don't think I realised the impact my post would have on so many women who have felt ashamed or guilt from having a C-section. Planned or emergency. If no one has told you I will. It is by no means the easy way out. It is a birth."

She added, "Politely f*** anyone who makes you feel anything different. You had a BELLY BIRTH. Whether it was a choice or not you did or had to do what was right for your baby and for you to be healthy and arrive safely. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. Hugging you all. We did it. We DID IT!!!"

Jessie also soft-launched her baby on her Instagram stories.

    Normalizing maternal mental health

In another Instagram post, the new mama thanked the people who supported her in her motherhood journey, and is doing active steps to take care of her mental health.

"Having a child has shifted my perspective and energy completely. I actively choose to only focus on the people who get it and support me. Everything else is background noise. I embrace my new life, my new body, my new world with no apologies," she wrote.

She added, "I will be on the beach with my body on show, I've missed too many moments in life caring about what people will say or think. I will be parenting my way and owning it. I love it here. Not missing out on any joy because of some opinionated hater. Block button is now a love language to myself if your vibes feel off. *YAWN*"

Congratulations, Jessie J and Chahan! You'll be amazing parents!
