ABS-CBN actress Regine Angeles also went through postpartum depression, she reveals.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertain Portal) through Instagram's direct message on Tuesday, July 31, Regine shared how her world was changed after giving birth to baby Viktor Alesso.
Regine and her husband, Van Leano, welcomed their baby in October 2017.
She told PEP.ph, "Super dami nang nabago when Alesso came into our life. My husband told me once, naalala mo pa ba buhay naten ng tayong dalawa lang?
"And then napaisip ako oo nga mas masaya nang dumating si Alesso. Mahirap din because I'm a hands-on mom.
"We only had help when he was 5 months old na pero it was just me and my husband nung una pero kinaya naman namen."ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
The first few months of Regine's journey as a mom was quite challenging.
The actress revealed that she had her own struggle with postpartum depression.
The 32-year-old Kampailya talent narrated, "For the first three months, I wasn't accepting anything. Kase nga I wasn't ready yet.
"Di ko siya kayang iwan. I was too anxious.
"I would get scared every time my husband would leave us for work kase iniisip ko di ko kayanin.
"I was living inside a room for three months. All I could see [was] the four corners of our room which ended up me having PPD [postpartum depression]."
"I guess because I was so used to being out all the time, working. Even when I was pregnant, nagte-taping ako 'til 8 months, biglang nabago.
"I cried for days. Weeks even."
Breastfeeding problems also added to her anxiety.
"Maybe because of the pressure of breastfeeding also. I wasn't providing enough milk at first so it was a struggle for me.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"It's sad 'cause I wasn't prepared for it. Para bang nobody talks about it."
Regine clarified that though she wasn't officially diagnosed with portpartum depression, but her obstetrician-gynecologist suggested that it might be what she went through.
Regine had to turn down several job offers to focus on her self and her family.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"I started working when Alesso was about 4 months na. When I have enough milk inside the freezer.
"I turned down 2 shows before and siguro I was ready na [talaga]."
Regine is relieved now that she has overcome her postpartum depression.
"It went away on its own. Naisip ko nanay ako. God specifically made us women to be mothers so kakayanin ko to.
"Also with the help of my friends and syempre my husband super supportive kahit na super bully siya sa mga IG posts ko. Hehe
"Nakatulong din na nakakalabas-labas ako."
The first-time celebrity mom is grateful to Van for giving her the much-needed emotional support.
She recalled, "My husband would ask me what's wrong...and I would always tell him di ko alam bakit."
"Dami niya tao minessage like mga friends niya na may asawa.
"Sabi niya, 'Talk to her or si ganito pala went thru the same thing also... Mag-usap-usap kayong mga mommies may kulto kayo.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"'Mas kayu-kayo nagkakaintindihan.' So mejo natawa na lang ako..."
Having a core group of moms also helped Regine recover from it.
"I opened up to my friend and that's the only time na she opened up to me also about having PPD in the past.
"So I guess, I'm sharing it kasi I don't want others to feel that they're alone. Na baka sila lang naka-experience no'n."ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Her fellow La Luna Sangre co-star Erika Padilla became her instant buddy since both of them are new moms.
"My first job after Alesso was La Luna Sangre and a lifestyle magazine show for INCTV [with] me being the main host. It was hard.
"Kase naiiyak kame sa taping ng La Luna ni Erika Padilla kase nami-miss namen anak namen (our babies are about the same age).
"We would pump [breast milk] together, ganon... May baon kameng cooler for our breast milk para may uwi kame sa mga anak namen."
