What is the best way to remove underarm hair?
On our parenting community, Smart Parenting Village, a mom asked her fellow mommies for recommendations on the best way to remove underarm hair at home. Of course, they came to the rescue — when it comes to DIY, nanays know best!
Hot wax
Moms say this is easy-to-use and affordable!PHOTO BY Courtesy of WatsonsADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWCONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended VideosSome moms prefer waxing over shaving because there is little to no chance of ingrown hairs. It can also exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells for smoother and brighter underarms.
If you are not yet used to waxing, moms suggest the beginner friendly Epilin wax. It comes with a melting pan and a wooden stick for easy application.
Just heat up the pan and press the wax down with the spatula so that the melted wax will rise to the surface. Let the wax cool until the consistency is similar to honey and is not too hot. Spread the wax in a strip on clean, dry skin.
Let it cool until it doesn’t stick when touched. Then, lift the lowest end of the wax strip against the hair growth and pull it off the skin in one quick motion. Repeat as needed.
Sugar wax

Spread the wax three times, and flick only as far as your wrist can go. Continue waxing until hair is removed!
As for the brands, mom’s recommend Esme organic cold wax, Nanny Rose honey wax, Bare Body sugar wax, and Strip It, which are all available at Shopee and Lazada.
You can also DIY it with this hack:
Wax strips
There are different brands of wax strips, but moms recommend these two since it’s easily available in Watsons.PHOTO BY Courtesy of WatsonsADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWMoms like this method because the strips come with pre-pasted wax. This avoids the hassle of heating and applying wax to remove hair. To use, just remove the adhesive backing on the strip, apply to your skin, and tear off against the direction of hair growth.
Hair removal cream
Although quick and painless, moms do say that the chemicals can eventually darken underarms.PHOTO BY Courtesy of LazadaADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWIf you hate waxing, another method moms love is the use of hair removal creams. They have chemicals that help break down keratin proteins in your hair and eventually dissolve them. All you need is to apply it on the skin, wipe off the cream with a towel, and your hair will be all gone.
Epilator
Some brands can be pricey, but moms say it’s sulit since you’ll use it for life.PHOTO BY Courtesy of LazadaADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWIf you love gadgets, you’d love the epilator! It’s a device that removes hair by the roots by plucking it away as you move it over different parts of the body. It’s especially useful for shorter hair that waxing usually cannot remove. Just like waxing, expect a small amount of pain — tolerable, according to moms.
Brands moms love: JML and Philips, both available in Lazada.
IPL Laser Hair Removal Machine
Moms swear by laser hair removal and it turns out there’s a handy device that you can use at home. One mom suggests the brand Lescolton, which is available in Shopee and Lazada.
As with all beauty devices, we strongly suggest that you research the product first before purchasing. Read reviews and make sure that it comes from a reputable manufacturer. Consult a dermatologist if you can. You can also invest in laser hair removal treatments available in skincare clinics.
