  • Actor Ian Veneracion is the latest among celebrities offering their own line of skin care products.

The 46-year-old Kapamilya actor launched his skin-care brand called Timeless by Ian Veneracion, in partnership with entrepreneur Maricor Flores, on December 7, 2021, at the ballroom of Makati Diamond Residences. Maricor is also Jinkee Pacquiao's business partner for her brand, Jinkee Skin.

In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the launch, Ian said it was so much more than just another endorsement deal.

The Oh My Dad! actor said, "I’m so proud to put my name even, di ba?

"I have my name right there. It’s not some, yun nga, iba siya sa endorsement, e.

"Hindi ko ilalagay ang pangalan ko naman sa isang produkto na hindi ako naniniwala or alam kong… you know, hindi ako sigurado.

"Kasi ang tagal ko ng inalagaan yung pangalan ko so hindi ko basta ilalagay yun sa produkto na hindi ako bilib."

Getting into skin care thanks to wife's "pangungulit"

Ian still couldn't believe he is now making and selling a skin care line when he has always been "tamad" about taking care of his own skin. He said, "Oo ako, ako mismo, sobrang tamad. Ever since..."

"Yung wife ko binilhan ako ng kung anong mamahalin na make-up remover. 'Tapos nagugulat siya parang two years na, 'Bakit walang bawas?'...'Yung ganun, kasi nga tamad talaga."

There was also the "dyahe" factor as daubing facial creams is associated with women.

As Ian told PEP.ph, "It plays a factor. Meron ganun na, parang… parang… 'I jumped out of airplanes, why you giving me some, you know, give me some night cream?'

"It’s not me! ‘Yung ganun. Pero, I think, yun nga, when the product’s specifically for men, there’s no awkward [feeling].

"Yung scent kasi, lalo na nilalagay mo sa mukha mo, kailangan gusto mo yung scent na something you can identify a bit."

Ian said it was his wife Pam Gallardo who pushed and motivated him to take care of his own skin, which later led him to start his own brand.

"Ang input ng wife ko, laging ako, para kulitin niya ako ever since. Pero, matigas ulo ko 'tsaka palagay ko naman gano’n, e.

"Kasi lalo dati, pag lalaki, feeling mo di wala itong nararamdaman ko, automatic lang iyan. Yung ganun, so, minsan kung anuman yung ginagamit mong sabon pang-mukha, pero hindi nga dapat.

"Kasi, it’s your responsibility to take care of your skin. Lalo na, yun nga sa akin, sa trabaho ko.

"So yung wife ko, sa pangungulit. Pero dito sa product, wala siyang kinalaman."

    Hands-on business partner

Not knowing much about the skin care business, Ian was especially grateful to Maricor for guiding him every step of the way—from conceptualization to production of his brand.

He told the press, "Ang contribution ko, yung mga bagay lang na alam ko. Di naman ako chemist. Ako, sinabi ko yung kailangan ko for my lifestyle.

"Yun nga, 'yung laging bilad sa araw, laging make-up because of shooting and taping and pictorials.

"And dahil matigas ang ulo ko, just like most men, na hindi masyadong… yun nga hindi religiously gumagamit ng produkto or, you know, cleansers and stuff.

"So, 'yun. Dun kami nag-start. And then dumalaw ako sa planta tapos nakita ko na yung operations and then we discussed many things about the product .

"Ayun, mamimili kami ng scents 'tapos eventually, testing. 'Tapos nung happy na kaming lahat, okay labas na natin ito."

Maricor elaborated, "Kasi sinasabi ko sa kanya, the efficacy of the product talaga, it will take you 14 days for you to parang visible effect… to see the visible effect.

"So I suggest to him to use it like regularly, every day talaga for 14 days."

Ian added, "At least, 14 days. Kasi nga, back and forth kami.

"Not only that, we’ll feedback regarding the color, the bottle, the packaging, and so on and so forth. So, it’s a long process."

Ian is introducing four products in his skin-care brand—facial wash, sunblock, day cream, and the high-intensity skin-perfecting serum, which Ian and Maricor are most proud of.

Maricor said, "Proud kami dun sa night serum namin kasi, it’s an overnight repair product.

"Once na ginamit mo siya, the following morning makikita mo sobrang fresh ka na.

"‘Yun talaga yung advantage, the delivery system, we make sure talaga na it contains ingredients that can really work deeply into your skin."

    Aging gracefully

With the launch of his skin care brand, Ian was careful about promoting his brand as the fountain of youth, saying he wasn't afraid of getting old.

He said, "I look forward to aging. I don’t mind. Eventually, I have, you know, white hair.

"I don’t mind, eventually makalbo na ako. I have no problems with the vanity part of aging."

The Pangako Sa'Yo actor continued, "Kasi, even the roles I play, I was never stuck on a certain age.

"For example, when I was in my 20s, I was doing movies... more than 20 action movies.

"And then, eventually, naging father na ako, normal lang na yung roles na ite-take ko syempre father roles din.

"Wala akong apprehension about that, na, 'No I have to [look] a certain kind of age.' No.

"I want my career and my roles to represent me also on how I age in real life."
