New Mom Details Labor-Proof Makeup That Survived Childbirth
The look lasted 14 hours of labor, without a setting spray in sight!

Every mom experiences labor differently. Some manage to stay fresh and put together, while others focus entirely on the moment, hair unwashed and all. Both are completely natural and real.
First-time mom and aesthetic doctor Rika Javier went viral on TikTok after sharing a video of herself casually doing her makeup in a hospital bed “at 5 cm before the epidural and in between contractions.” Posted on September 12, the clip has already racked up over 952,000 views.
Her husband, Carl Javier, captured the behind-the-scenes moment because he “couldn’t believe what he was seeing.” The viral clip highlights not just Rika’s commitment to looking her best, but also the incredible strength women bring to childbirth.
The Story Behind the Viral Look
What made the moment even more impressive? Rika’s makeup lasted through 14 hours of labor. In an exclusive interview with Preview, she opened up about the story behind her now-iconic labor-proof look.
Rika didn’t necessarily plan a glamorized labor moment—but she did come prepared.
“I definitely packed my makeup as part of my hospital bag,” she told Preview. “I remember telling my husband as I was having contractions while being wheeled into the labor room, ‘Do not forget my eyelashes!’”
In the video, she’s seen calmly applying cluster lashes mid-contraction. Now that’s dedication!

While it’s normal to feel nervous before delivery, Rika found comfort and strength in her beauty routine. “It’s a way to set your mind into thinking that the delivery is something to look forward to,” she said.
Whether heading to work or welcoming her baby, she believes in putting effort into how she looks because “it makes me feel good about myself.”
According to Rika, labor began at 6:30 a.m. She managed to put on her makeup by noon and finally delivered at 10 p.m. Despite the long hours and intense contractions, her look stayed flawless. “I think hulas proof?? Forgot my setting spray pa!!!” she joked.
Not long after that marathon labor, Rika and Carl finally met their little girl. On August 23, they welcomed a healthy baby named Celestine Robyn.
