So your kid wants a safari birthday theme for their big day? But you have no idea how to pull it off? We’ve got you covered!

From menu spread ideas to safari activities, we have everything you need to know right here.

Food

Let’s start with the food! There are so many easy ways to serve safari-friendly food, since a lot of kiddie foods are already animal-shaped, like animal chicken nuggets and animal cookies.

Aside from those that are ready-made and instant, here are a few more ideas:

Safari Snake Sandwich

All you need is one or two baguettes and your usual sandwich fillings. Make sandwiches using your baguettes, then cut them into little sandwiches. Next, arrange these little sandwiches into a large snake on a banana leaf so that the snake looks right at home!

Lion Veggie Platter

Why miss an opportunity to feed the children veggies? Cut up some cucumber, carrots, and different colored bell peppers into sticks (about the size of thick French fries), and arrange the sticks in a circle on a plate.

Ensure that the cucumbers and green bell peppers are positioned on the outer part of the circle so that they resemble the safari background with a lion. Then the red and yellow bell peppers and carrots will make up the lion’s mane.

Next, put some fun dip in a bowl in the middle and carefully place two blueberries or olives for the eyes, then use the bottom of the bell peppers to make the nose and mouth.

Snake Pit

This one is another no-effort safari food. Just grab a pack of gummy worms and place them in a black bowl or bucket, and label it “snake pit.”

You could also do the same with gummy bears and call it a bear pit, labeling it as such.

Mud Bath

If you’re planning to have a chocolate fountain anyway, call it a chocolate fountain mud bath. Theme parties are all about perspective!

Safari Themed Drinks

And of course, don’t forget to label all the drinks! Here are a few ideas:

  • Jungle safari punch
  • Tiger juice
  • Elephant tears
  • Jungle juice
  • Decor

Since you already have a safari theme, it’s easy to plan all your decor around it. Start with Earth colors like green, nude, and shades of brown.

    Safari Tables

Start with banana leaves as table runners, then use safari animals as centerpieces. You will want to use the plastic ones instead of the stuffed ones to protect them from the food debris or spilled drinks.

    Paw Prints and Safety Signs

Cut out or print different safari animal paw prints and glue them all over the party venue. If you’re planning to have it in a large space with separate sections for dining, playtime, and activities, you’ll want to use the paw prints as directional markers to those destinations.

You could also put up safety signs to make the journey fun! Here are some ideas:

    • Do not pet the tigers
    • Do not feed the lions
    • Beware of a venomous snake
    • Elephants crossing
    • Cute cubs ahead
    • Safari ride this way

    Include Your Guests

Make your guests feel not just welcome, but also part of the theme. You can purchase different safari animal headbands from online shopping platforms and display them at the entrance, allowing children to choose which animal they want to be.

    Forest Ranger Hats

But of course, a safari birthday theme would not be complete with just the animals; they need forest rangers! This one is easier, as you will only need one type of ranger hat.

    Safari Games and Activities

    Paint Your Safari Animal

Not every kid enjoys running around the entire party, so for those who want a wind-down activity, why not have them create their own safari animal? Set up an art space with some tables and place protective manila paper or cartolina over them, so you won’t have to worry about damage from the paint.

As for supplies, online shopping platforms typically offer them in sets. You can look for animal plaster paint kits or similar items.

    Build Your Safari

Another fun activity to do is to have the children create their mini safari (it’s just a terrarium, really)!

Here are the supplies you will need:

    • Glass or clear plastic container
    • Moss and potting mix
    • Small layers of stone for drainage
    • Your chosen plants
    • Activated charcoal

To assemble, start with layering the small stones on the bottom of the container for drainage. Next, cover them with the activated charcoal and place some potting mix on top. Then put your plants in the potting mix, and finish off the look by adding some moss!

The best part about having kids build a terrarium is that it’s alive and has its own ecosystem! It will teach them the basics, like the life cycle of plants and the water cycle, all in a small pot. It’s sure to be treasured by your little guests when they take it home, and will teach them to be responsible, to care for real plants, and inspire an awe for nature and its science.

    Guess Whose Footprint

Your safari enthusiast kid might ace this game, but not all of their guests will. This game will be easy; you might not even have to make extra paw prints to quiz them - you could have them guess using the footprints you’ve placed in the venue for decor.

And that’s all the ideas we have for a safari birthday theme! We hope you have found this article to be helpful in your planning and preparations. Did we miss any fun ideas? Let us know!
