In this article, we've got everything you need to know to throw a fiesta-themed party for your little one!

Ready? Let's get started!

Guide to Planning a Filipino Fiesta-Themed Party

Set Your Theme

A fiesta party theme is fun and memorable by itself, but if you have more creative energy to spend, or if you have fond memories of your hometown's fiesta, why not recreate a specific fiesta to celebrate your child?

Just imagine—a Pahiyas or Higantes fiesta-themed party would be much more memorable (and connect your kid to their roots) than a generic fiesta theme. A more specific fiesta theme will also make decorating easier and more coherent, as your theme is more focused.

Fiesta-Themed Dress Code

Who says only the food, decor, and games have to be themed? Include your guests in the fun by encouraging them to dress in a fiesta theme as well! Now, we're not talking about Linggo ng Wika levels of attire, but a little touch of fiesta spirit is enough. Besides, doesn't the iconic Katipunero outfit with the chino look quite comfy for jumping around and playing?

Just don't forget to remind your guests that comfort is still the top priority!

Fiesta Food

Fiesta Party Spread

This one is a no-brainer. Plan your party menu around your chosen fiesta theme. And if your chosen theme is the generic fiesta one, then traditional Filipino party foods like pancitlechon kawalibarbecue, and more will be a hit!

The Sorbetes Experience

What's a children's party without ice cream? Not a party, if you ask me. Now, instead of big tubs of boring, store-bought ice cream, why not have a sorbetes cart—complete with the apa cones, the bell, and manong sorbetero giving them out with a smile?

If you're wondering where to get this, approach your local manong sorbetero and ask if you can order sorbetes from them and rent their cart and services for the day.

You will, however, want to make sure that your guest list is big enough before booking a service like this to finish all the sorbetes, since there is usually a minimum order quantity for this.

Banana Leaves

Why serve your guests their food on plain paper plates or rattan when you can replace them with banana leaves for the full fiesta-themed party experience? Not only is it more on-theme, but it's also the more environmentally friendly option!

Filipino Sweets Bar

Swap the usual party dessert bars with a Filipino sweets bar and get the kids in touch with their history!

Start with the basic fiesta sweets that align with your chosen theme, and sprinkle in some familiar treats like ice candypolvoron, and pastillas de leche as well.

Kakanin Bar

No Filipino fiesta (or party, for that matter) is complete without some form of kakanin. Set up a table, grab some banana leaves and use them as tablecloths, then grab a few bilao of your family's favorite kakanins and place them on the table for everyone to enjoy.

Street Food Bar

I know this isn't exactly fiesta-related, but if you want something that the kids will remember, a street food bar would be lots of fun!

You can rent out "Street food" carts that serve fishball, kikiam, kwek kwek, squid balls, and even cheese sticks, giving your guests a yummy "street food" experience without worries. The shared experience and memory with their friends also make it a party to remember.

Samalamig Drink Bar

Instead of serving the drinks on the table or making them part of your Filipino fiesta party food station, give the drinks their separate booth and set them up like a samalamig shop.

Serve samalamig favorites like sago't gulamanbuko salad drinkbuko pandan drinkmango sago't gulaman, and, if your chosen fiesta has its signature drinks, have those available for your guests too!

Fiesta Activities

Keep your games and activities on-theme by sticking to Filipino games! Here are some suggestions:

Bingo

Yes, this one is for both parents and kids to enjoy—who says only the children get to have all the fun? A Bingo game is relatively easy to set up; you can order printed bingo cards from online shopping platforms or print them yourself, and prepare a variety of winning pattern combinations (you can also use an online bingo generator to make things easier).

Bonus: Having the children participate in an activity like this helps them recognize numbers and patterns quickly, practice their hand-eye coordination, improve their concentration skills, and can be a perfect bonding moment for all the families.

Palayok or Pabitin

A classic must-have for any Filipino party! Fill up the palayok or pabitin with local Filipino treats and candies, or with small toys that are related to your chosen fiesta theme.

Palarong Pinoy

Stick to the Filipino fiesta theme and keep all games Pinoy! If your chosen fiesta theme comes with traditional games, try making backyard or child-friendly versions of them at your party.

You can also stick to traditional or old-fashioned street games like patinterotumbang presoagawan baseChinese garter, and more. You could also throw in a few sit-down games like sungka, pick-up sticks, and jackstone into the mix.

Kids these days may not be familiar with these games and the corresponding rules, so get a willing adult from one of your guests or family members to teach the little ones.

Fiesta-Themed Party Decor

Banderitas

It's not a fiesta-themed party without the banderitas! You can get banderitas decor easily on online shopping platforms or in Divisoria, and they're pretty easy to decorate with.

Table Centerpieces

Get creative with your centerpieces! Ditch the usual flower arrangements and use your chosen fiesta elements. For instance, you could have mini higante toy figures as centerpieces or little carabao toys with wagons if you're doing a Pahiyas fiesta theme.

If you're going for the generic fiesta theme, a simple palayok or salakot filled with local candy or treats will do as well!

Banig and Bayong

To incorporate some banig and bayong into your party decor, you can set up a photo booth area with a banig as the background and decorate it with a "Happy Birthday" (or "Happy Fiesta") sign.

You can also set up the children's tables separately, picnic-style, and have them eat sitting on the floor with banig mats instead of picnic mats.

And if you're planning to give out party favors, make sure you use mini bayongs as the goodie bags!

Mini Palengke

If your fiesta theme is related to celebrating harvest, why not set up another booth and decorate it like a little palengke stall? Fill it with produce related to your fiesta theme, and have the children take home a few produce items for their mini bayong!

This booth can also double as their personalized fiesta goodie bag and create a memorable experience for the kids!

After all, who needs more candies and disposable toys when they can bring home some veggies instead? This could also be the perfect opportunity to teach them the importance of agriculture, the significance of farmers in our society, and give them a new appreciation for fruits and vegetables.

Bonus: If you want to add a math lesson to the mix, give out play money and put prices on the produce to give them the whole palengke experience!

And that's all we have for throwing a fiesta-themed party! We hope this idea turns your fiesta theme party into a memorable and educational one for everyone.
