Eric Tai Defends Wife from Body Shamers: “Hindi Siya Pabaya. She Was Surviving”

“Their story might be heavier than their weight.”

Eric Tai, also known as Eruption, defended his wife Rona against body shamers over the weekend after she received comments online about her weight.

In a lengthy post, Eruption urged people to think before judging someone’s body. “This is my wife, Rona. Before you judge someone’s body, especially when they’re bigger or their appearance has changed, ask yourself first… do you know their whole story?” he wrote.

One of the comments Rona received read, “Ang taba mo na.”

The TV personality shared that his wife has undergone four knee surgeries after a snowboarding accident that left doctors telling her she would never be able to run again.

“She carried life inside her twice only to feel that life slip away. We lost not just pregnancies, we lost hopes, dreams, and parts of ourselves,” Eruption said, referring to their two miscarriages.

Doctors later told them that Rona could no longer get pregnant. “The doctors informed us that she will never get pregnant again due to losing both fallopian tubes and an ovary.”

However, four years later, Rona gave birth to their son Legend through a one-shot IVF treatment. He wrote, “Our ausome son Legend arrived. He was a one-shot IVF miracle baby. We really had only one chance, one shot, and one answered prayer.”

Eruption also revealed that Rona almost died during childbirth due to unforeseen complications. “I almost lost my wife on the very day we became parents, and that kind of trauma doesn’t just go away,” he said.

He questioned how people could expect her to recover quickly. “How do you bounce back from nearly dying? From losing two pregnancies before that? From postpartum pain, PTSD, hormonal imbalance, anxiety, and depression?”

Addressing those who criticized Rona’s weight, Eruption explained, “So yes, her body changed. Because her life changed. Because her heart broke again and again while she kept showing up, surviving, loving, and mothering. Hindi siya tamad. Hindi siya pabaya. She was surviving.”

“Before you comment on someone’s body, remember: their story might be heavier than their weight. Behind every body is a journey. Behind every scar is a survival. Behind my wife’s strength is a woman who’s lost more than most and still kept going,” he said.

Eruption also reminded people that healing takes time. “For some, it may take weeks, months, or years for them to bounce back. And as husbands, family, and friends, we have to be more understanding, supportive, and patient. Not just say it, show it, and eventually their time will come. Have faith.”

Eruption Reminds Couples: “Teamwork Tayo, Not Takeover”

In another post, he also spoke about the realities of relationships. “Walang perfect na katawan, walang perfect na relasyon. May away, may tampuhan, may struggles. Pero dapat mas piliin natin ang isa’t isa no matter what.”

He continued, “Whether we gain weight, lose weight, or stay the same, we choose to love, empower, and grow together. Because at the end of the day, true love doesn’t count calories. It counts commitment, kindness, and how we show up for one another with God in the midst of our relationship.”

“Real men don’t control; they communicate. Being in a relationship isn’t about being right. It’s about doing what’s right, together.” To women, he reminded, “Relationships aren’t one-way streets. Hindi ito solo mission. It takes two to grow, to love, and to make it work. Kaya mga kumander, teamwork tayo, not takeover.”

“Let’s be kinder. Let’s be more considerate of others. Let’s stop judging what we don’t understand and choose to see beyond what’s visible. Because true beauty and love is not just how someone looks, it’s what they’ve overcome,” Eruption concluded.
