KPop Demon Hunters Sequel Confirmed—HUNTR/X Is Back!

Fans of KPop Demon Hunters are officially entering their sequel era! Netflix has confirmed that the global animated hit will return for another film, bringing the supernatural K-pop world of HUNTR/X back to screens.

Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will return to direct the sequel, which will also mark the first project under their new exclusive multi-year writing and directing partnership with Netflix across animation.

The announcement follows the massive success of the original film, which debuted in June 2025. Since then, KPop Demon Hunters has racked up more than 500 million views worldwide, becoming the most watched movie in Netflix history.

In the announcement shared by Netflix, Kang reflected on what the film’s reception means for the story and its characters.

“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” Kang said. “There’s so much more to this world we have built and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”

Netflix has not revealed plot details for the sequel yet, but the next chapter is expected to continue expanding the world introduced in the first film.

In KPop Demon Hunters, viewers meet fictional K-pop girl group HUNTR/X: Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. While they perform as global pop stars, the trio secretly protects their fans from supernatural threats. Their biggest enemy arrives in the form of the Saja Boys, a rival boy band who turn out to be demons in disguise.

Because the Saja Boys play such a central role in the first movie, many fans are already wondering if they will return in the sequel. Netflix has not confirmed which characters will appear in the follow-up film, so their comeback has not been officially announced.

What the creators have hinted at is that the sequel will deepen the characters and push the story further. Speaking to the BBC in October 2025, Kang and Appelhans said, “There’s definitely more we can do with these characters in this world” and “Whatever it will be, it will be a story that deserves to be a sequel, and it will be something that we want to see.”

So when is the sequel releasing? There’s no exact date yet. According to Variety, Netflix is currently eyeing a 2029 release for the first KPop Demon Hunters sequel. In the meantime, fans aren’t putting their light sticks down anytime soon, replaying the original movie and keeping the hype alive.
