Although her son Leon is still a baby, Miss World 2013 and celebrity mom Megan Young is already thinking about the kind of man she hopes he will become. Speaking on the Almost Honest podcast during Women’s Month, she shared the core values she plans to instill in him as he grows.
“What I wanna teach Leon about women is how to take care of a woman. And if ever we do have a daughter in the future, whatever I teach my daughter, I will also teach Leon. Because if he does end up getting married and having a wife, he needs to know how to take care of her and how to treat her well. And where else is he gonna learn that? Kundi sa bahay namin, kundi sa akin,” Megan explains.
She also wants Leon to understand that supporting women means noticing their needs and helping without shame. “Things like maybe a woman’s menstrual cycle, I’ll teach that to him—I’ll teach him ‘these are things that mama needs, [your] future sister might need, and you might have to buy pads at the grocery store or the drug store for your sister and you should not be ashamed about that.’ I wanna teach him that women are to be respected and that there are things that women go through and we need to support them in.”
How Motherhood Changed Megan’s Outlook on Life
Motherhood has completely reshaped Megan’s perspective. Before having Leon, she admits she didn’t fully understand what it would mean to be a mom. “I never thought that I would call motherhood something that I could enjoy and be proud of because I didn’t have any idea of what motherhood could be. It was very surface level. You’d see stuff on Instagram from friends and family. When you hold a baby you’re like ‘aww so cute,’ but once the baby starts crying, you pass it off to the mom… that was me before,” she shares.
Now, with Leon in her life, it’s a completely different chapter. “I’m just embracing every single change, whether that be mentally, whether that’s my body completely changing and blowing me up and down, and of course, I guess my outlook on life has changed a lot after having Leon.”
