This 'Nike' Unofficial Ad Honors All Moms as Athletes in Their Own Right
An inspiring visual story that shows motherhood as strength expressed in everyday realities.

A Nike spec campaign is making the rounds online, and people are obsessed with its powerful take on motherhood. Created by Trevan Mukiza, ‘Moms Are Athletes Too’ uses a series of editorial-style images to celebrate mothers as athletes in their own right.
As a spec ad, ‘Moms Are Athletes Too’ is an independently created campaign concept made without an official commission from Nike. Spec ads are often created by creatives to showcase an idea they believe fits a brand’s identity. The visuals shown are not official Nike images and are not associated with any Nike campaign.
A Symbol of Mothers Carrying More Than We See
One particularly striking image from the unofficial campaign shows a mother figure lifting a barbell overhead. Instead of traditional gym weights, the bar carries objects associated with caregiving and domestic life.

“MOMS ARE ATHLETES TOO is a concept where the barbell symbolizes the weight of motherhood. Each object hanging from it symbolizes the many responsibilities a mom carries in her life; work, expectations, relationships, children, etc. By lifting the barbell above her head, she demonstrates not only physical strength, but the resilience, endurance, and power that mothers embody every single day. Because motherhood is heavy, but mothers are stronger than the weight they carry,” explained the creative director on Instagram.
Through symbolic visuals, the campaign highlights that the endurance, resilience, and discipline often associated with sports are the same qualities mothers embody every day.
Nike (M): The Brand’s First Maternity Collection
Made by moms for moms, Nike has previously recognized mothers in its official work. In 2020, it launched Nike (M), its first maternity collection designed for pregnant and postpartum women, calling moms the “ultimate endurance athletes.”

One of its athletes, pro golfer Michelle Wie West told Glamour, “You don’t have to try on outfits and be like, ‘Oh, is this a medium, does it fit me? Oh no, I have to wear a size large.’ Maybe it’s dumb, but I don’t like the feeling of not being able to fit in my clothes, not feeling like myself. Having something that I know is the same size that I was before, mentally, that really helped me feel like myself.”
Whether through a viral concept or an official collection, motherhood remains strength in motion and continues to inspire more meaningful storytelling. The response to ‘Moms Are Athletes Too’ also reflects a growing call for brands to create more impactful campaigns that better reflect and support the realities of motherhood.
