Son Ye-Jin Said The Most Relatable Thing About Working Moms

Almost four years after surprising the world with their screen-to-life K-Drama romance, Son Ye-Jin is embracing her new role as a mother. Alongside her life as an actress and wife, she has happily given fans a rare glimpse into her family life with Hyun Bin.

On September 13, the Korean actress appeared as a guest on JTBC’s 'Please Take Care of My Refrigerator 2'. It is Son Ye-Jin’s first appearance on a Korean variety show in four years.

It’s a rare moment for Son Ye-Jin to share a normal day in their household, together with her husband Hyun Bin and their four-year-old son. Son Ye-Jin even puts stickers on Hyun Bin’s face on her Instagram posts.

The actress has a new series on Netflix entitled Scandal, alongside Ji Chang-Wook and Nana. They discussed how Son Ye-Jin manages taping and motherhood.

“Honestly, it really doesn’t feel like work,” she started.

“Actually I like going to the set more,” she honestly admitted, smiling from ear-to-ear. She explained why she likes going to the set, “Because then I get to work with people I really connect with. We don’t have to repeat it.”

Apparently, her son loves firefighters and always asks her to join whatever he’s playing. “At home, I have to keep putting out fires and keep playing with fire trucks. Fires break out everywhere all day long. We have to put it out then request for rescue.”

The hosts and chefs laughed at her storytelling because she was also mimicking a fireman putting out fires everywhere.

Aside from their playtime, they also showed photos of Son Ye-Jin’s meals cooked at home. She usually cooks for her husband and son whenever she has time. She shared Hyun Bin’s favorites: rice, kimchi stew, and meat.

When the hosts opened her fridge, Son Ye-Jin happily shared stories behind each side dish and even simple recipes for their breakfasts and snacks. She and Hyun Bin have different taste preferences: she likes foods that are a bit bland, while Hyun Bin likes salty and tasty.

Together with professional chefs from Culinary Class Wars, the hosts and guests talk about the food inside the fridge, cook a recipe from it, and share heartwarming stories.

Son Ye-Jin brought their refrigerator and said, “I thought it would be really fun to appear on the show, but once I was told that I had to show my refrigerator, it felt like I was revealing my bare face.”

She then cleaned the fridge and made side dishes she didn’t normally prepare. Her husband, Hyun Bin, reacted with humor to her freshly cleaned fridge: “This isn’t the refrigerator I know.”

And just like that, it feels like Ye-Jin and Hyun Bin live in their own rom-com.

She also shared a relatable parenting moment that even A-list Korean actors and actresses cannot escape from.

“It would be nice if the baby ate well, but sometimes they don’t, and there are leftovers. I eat it all. If the child leaves some food, Mom eats it all. But if Mom is full, she gives it to Dad.”
