If you’ve got parents, grandparents, titos, or titas who rely on their monthly SSS pension—or if you’re already planning your retirement—you’ll want to hear this. Starting September 2025, the Social Security System (SSS) will begin increasing monthly pensions for all types of pensioners over a three-year period.

SSS Pension Reform Program

This is part of a landmark Pension Reform Program, the most significant adjustment in SSS history. For the first time in 68 years, SSS will implement a multi-year pension raise, rolled out in stages to help as many Filipino families as possible, without putting extra pressure on the fund or your monthly contributions.

The Social Security Commission (SSC) approved the reform through Resolution No. 340-s.2025 and is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
So, how much is the increase?
The agency will roll out the increase in three stages:

September 2025 (for pensioners as of August 31, 2025):
  • 10% increase for retirement and disability pensioners
  • 5% increase for survivor (death) pensioner
  • September 2026 (for pensioners as of August 31, 2026):
  • Additional 10% for retirement and disability pensioners
  • Additional 5% for survivor pensioners
  • September 2027 (for pensioners as of August 31, 2027):
  • Additional 10% for retirement and disability pensioners
  • Additional 5% for survivor pensioners
  • By the end of the three-year rollout, monthly pensions will have increased by approximately 33% for retirement and disability pensioners, and 16% for survivor pensioners.

For example, a retirement pensioner receiving ₱8,000 per month could receive about ₱10,640 by 2027. The increase may help families cover essentials like groceries, maintenance medicine, or other everyday expenses.

SSS President and CEO Robert Joseph M. De Claro said the program was carefully developed with sustainability in mind.

“We’ve heard the clamor for higher pensions loud and clear,” De Claro said. “With the guidance of Finance Secretary and SSC Chairperson Ralph G. Recto, and after careful actuarial review, we are rolling out a rational and sustainable pension increase that uplifts all pensioners without compromising the fund’s actuarial soundness.”

    No increase in contributions
Unlike past benefit changes that required corresponding contribution hikes, this Pension Reform Program will not need any contribution increases. That means current workers and employers can expect the same contribution levels even as benefits go up.

The program is expected to inject around ₱92.8 billion into the economy between 2025 and 2027. According to the SSS, this amount reflects the scale of support flowing directly into Filipino households.
If you’re part of the so-called “sandwich generation” supporting both children and aging parents, this reform may ease some of the financial pressure. It also signals the government’s effort to improve long-term security for today’s and tomorrow’s retirees—something many working parents are already thinking about.
