  • Workers in the private, professionals and informal sectors, as well as overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) should be members of the Social Security System (SSS), the state-run, social insurance program in the Philippines, to avail of its benefits such as salary loans and maternity benefits. Like other government agencies, it's now online with its members' website and an app, too!

My.SSS is the SSS online service portal that's easy to use. It allows SSS members exclusive and safe access to their contributions and membership records, and do online transactions or set appointments with their SSS servicing branch, among others. SSS Members and company employers must register first to be able to use it.

Type "sss.gov.ph" no the web browser (e.g., Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox) to go to the My.SSS website.

Why you should use SSS online

Half of an employee's SSS monthly contribution is paid for by his employer, while professionals and workers that belong in the informal sector shoulder their own premiums. Starting in 2019, SSS members' contributions increased from 11 percent to 12 percent, and it will continue to rise to 15 percent by 2025. (Click here to know more about the increased SSS contributions.)

We all know the possible inconvenience (i.e., traffic and long lines) in dealing with government agencies, but you need not worry about those anymore. With the SSS online website, it will be easier for members to get the most of their SSS benefits. My.SSS saves you the effort of going to a branch and wait in line to submit an application or claim, and perhaps just go back to check if it has been approved.

How to register on SSS online

    ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

SSS has been encouraging all members to register on My.SSS to ease the waiting time in their branches and serve their members' needs faster. Employed members, self-employed professionals and voluntary-paying members, OFWs, unemployed spouses with at least one month posted SSS contribution, kasambahays and other household employees are qualified to register online. Employers or companies also have their own portal in My.SSS.

    1. Connect to the internet and go to My.SSS registration page

To register on SSS online, you first need to connect to the internet via a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Open a web browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge) and type "sss.gov.ph" on the web address or URL space, and it will take you to My.SSS.

Once you are redirected to the page, it will show you the member and employer login page. If it's your first time on the site and you're not yet registered, just click the box under "Not yet registered in My.SSS." It will lead you to five options based on the information you've used to register with SSS.

    2. Fill out the registration form with the required and correct information

Choose one, and it will then redirect you to an online registration form you'd need to fill out. If you choose UMID Card, have your UMID card PIN code ready. If you don't have a UMID card PIN yet, you first need to activate your UMID card via SSS Information terminals at select SSS branches.

Make sure to fill in all the required information or those with red asterisks. You can use your last name on your UMID card if it exceeds the character limit; call the SSS hotline at +63902 9206446 to 55 if your UMID is not with you, and just leave the field for middle name blank if you don't have one.

Double-check the information you type. Don't forget to input the captcha code and to tick the box, accepting the Terms of Service, before you click Submit. The site should inform you of a successful submission for your SSS online registration.

    3. Check your email and activate your My.SSS online registration

SSS will then validate information you submitted against their records. If everything is in order, you should receive an email from SSS, containing your My.SSS user ID and a URL activation link. If you receive an email about registration failure, the information you submitted might be incorrect or the required format, say, for the birth date, was not met. (Always use drop-down calendars or options, if applicable, to make sure you follow the format required.

The SSS email should appear in your inbox (check in your spam folder, too) in about half an hour. Click on the URL activation link as soon as you receive it, and it will lead you to the My.SSS page where you can create your password. Passwords should at least start with a letter of the alphabet and contain at least eight letters and numbers — with no special characters, and it must be different from your SSS user ID.

The URL activation link sent to your email will only be valid for five days before it expires. If you don't click on it within those days, you'll need to do the whole process of SSS online registration again.

SSS is also developing an SSS Member Portal Beta website that is still under development, and there are limited services available so far. Currently, you can only schedule branch appointments, plus view and request for member details, employment history, and premium contributions, and submit a retirement application.

But you can also register on SSS online via the SSS Member Portal Beta website. Click on "Not Registered" beside the "Forgot User ID? Password?" under the login button, and it will direct you to a registration application form right away. It's basically the same process, as it will still ask you to choose what information you used to register for SSS. Again, make sure you provide the correct information in the correct format. Use drop-down options whenever applicable.

You can conduct many SSS online transactions via the SSS Mobile App as well, free to download from The Apple Store and Google Play.

The SSS Member Portal Beta website sports a similar design with the SSS Mobile App, which allows members to do the same transactions the My.SSS website offers. These include filing for SSS maternity notification for self-employed and OFWs, tracking SSS monthly contributions, loan payments, and status of benefit claims like sickness and maternity. You can download the SSS Mobile app from Google Play Store and The Apple Store, but you first need to register for SSS online on the website. (Know more about the SSS Mobile App here.)
